Sad sad news.
We must all pass even the greats but his passing...well it takes away some many moments from my childhood... The tv show he ran Mr Football, the handball lessons, kicking lessons....How many of us kids growing up in the 60s watched and practiced in the backyards and streets of Melbourne the skills he took us through during that show...
Then he came...He became ours...I was at the 68 GF with my dad and my dad had 2 heroes in his life - Big Nick and Barass. I remember that leap in the air Barass did when the siren sounded in 1970 - I remember that leap became something we all did in the streets when we kicked a goal.
I remember him leaving and though it was sad it was right too - he was like the lone cowboy riding into town after town, cleaning it up, making it better place - that was Barass...so he went
but his legacy... It was the air that filled this place for so many years - until (and I have hated him for this) Eliott destroyed that legacy - and so for me Voss is reigniting that Barass legacy - he is reigniting the flame that Barass lit
and I have hope for this club that seemed all but doomed...and somewhere in the playing fields of the West (sorry GW the resurrection of this club is all religosity in my bluebagger heart), Barass sits polishing his boots looking to what will be not what was...
