Post subject: | Camp Curnow: Torquay reset entering Carlton folklore?! |
At the moment I've only heard small pieces of information about the midweek reset held at Ed Curnow's place after the Essendon* loss in early–mid June. Since then it's been WWWWWWWW I've tried to find some more information about that reset and this is all I've been able to come up with for now. If anyone knows anything else, please do tell… https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/06/13/ ... quay-trip/ https://www.printfriendly.com/p/g/wXYHm2 Quote: Despite the result not going their way against Essendon* on Sunday night, Walsh says trips like the one they had in Torquay won’t necessarily see immediate results. “We get the day off in the middle of the week most weeks and we went down to Ed Curnow’s property down in Torquay to try and change up the scenery a bit,” Walsh told SEN’s Whateley. “You mentioned before that we’ve been on a bit of a losing slump, so we tried and change the environment. “We went down there and got together as a group which was good, most clubs and playing groups try and stick together and do stuff. “We went down there to reset and talk a little bit about our identity and how we want to be seen. I think with these things it doesn’t happen overnight, we’re probably chasing a few things at the moment, and we haven’t been able to execute in certain areas where you can win or lose games as you, we saw on the weekend. “We’re 100 per cent unified, I’ve been in this position once or twice now with our back up against the ropes and I know for a fact that everyone’s sticking together and we’re backing each other in as players, and we’ve just got to create that confidence amongst each other. “The same with the coaches, they’re putting in a massive amount of work and it’s up to us to start delivering because we can do all this talking, we want but unless you back it up on the field, it doesn’t mean much.” Carlton will host the Gold Coast Suns on Sunday afternoon at the MCG. Whatever was said and done, it seems to be working! |

I have it on very good authority that it was a meeting organised by Cook between list and playing group that was the big change. This was a week or two before Curnow get together Players thought they were being overcoached and coaches wanted more team play and work on defence. Was a week or two prior but clicked in the GCS game Told it was a great calm discussion, no blaming or anything like that, and everyone has been on the same page since |

"Well may I ask what you expected to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain??" |

It may have started with a meeting between players and coaches. But it also feels like the key ingredient is the players taking control of their own destiny. Owning their performances and hence empowering themselves to improve. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
