My understanding and could well be wrong, is that it's largely player driven these days.
If the player keeps the play going its deemed they have chosen to take the advantage rule and there is no recall.
Back in the day, they almost had 2 bites of the cherry where they could try their luck and if it didn't come off, umpire would deem no advantage and call it back.
So in this case Young seemingly heard the whistle, rather than stop and let someone take a set shot 30m straight in front, chose to to keep the play going so it was called advantage based on that.
