You don't want to be playing your best football now. Collingwood proved last night if you lay it on the table early you will get worked out.
Dee's had the same problem last year.
If you can bank wins early playing ordinary football then that is good.

We need to start hitting our straps in round 15 onwards. If one quarter gets the job done then so beit.

Look at Geelong start of last year. Not saying we'll be Geelong this year, but they didn't set the world on fire early on.

I was very frustrated with the first half. Thought we were poor and they were physically dominating us. Intensity was way off and our ball movement was so slow and conservative.

Clearly a much better third quarter and first half of the last. That’s how I want us to play all the time. We will trouble many sides playing like that.

Voss presser was pure class all round but I was very pleased to hear him mention being quite unhappy with how we finished the game.

Very happy to bank early wins and get to work on improving what we have to.

Pros:

Notched up another early win.
Third quarter pressure.
Whole forward line contributed.
Great to see Harry among the goals again. Could easily have kicked 6.
Harry, Weiters, Charlie, Saad, McGovern, Motlop.
Good to see Fisher have a high possession game. Liked that we gave more players a run through the middle.
Holland was really clean with the ball, apart from a poor turnover in the last quarter.

Cons:

Conceding the last 4 goals and the chance for a kill.
Got smashed in midfield for the majority of the game.
Continue to struggle with opposition ball movement. Need more pace and run.
Once again Jaidyn Stevenson had a standout game against us.
Media mention of Harry being scrutinised by MRP. No mention of Zurhaar.

So far this year we have 2 goals from the midfield both from Doc and both from outside 50.

Excellent point. You'd like to be getting 2-3 goals each week from the midfield group.

I'm not sure we were?

21-20 free kicks.

Charlie wasn't given that much of a free run....it was the novice defenders giving away frees.

The Zurhaar one was horrific yes, but they got a goal from the next play, get over it.

How many free kicks did we give away in the ruck? FMD

It felt like it….

I’m so used to not getting the 50/50 ones…felt
we got 75% of them…i mean SOS flat out pushed
a guy in the back…!

he didn’t score…but Harry did…!

it wasn’t the difference though…!

kindest regards tommi

A point not raised (I think) is that good sides win playing badly. We are doing that.

Imagine if we start laying well.

I reckon there was a game against the dogs a few years ago where he kicked 7, & 3 or 4 were from frees

Very very happy we are undefeated after 4

Bonus is we have significant improvement
Need to find balance between slow and quick play
Haven’t had close to our best side on the park

Lots of positives so early in the season

As the season begins to slowly unfold I feel we have got better to some degree by they inclusion of Acres
Hollands and Motlop looks to have not got the second year blues.
The wings were a problem last year. Hollands looks a great pick.
He is tough, smart and has a huge tank.
Motlop. Has the tools to be the small forward we need
Obviously the inclusion of Walsh and Kennedy will add hugely to our midfield

I thought our defence was terrific yesterday but the opposition was poor

My concern after 4 matches is I don’t know what our brand is. We still move the ball way too slow and conservatively
We rely too much on Curnow and McKay who had a field day yesterday because Logue and Harry’s twin weren’t there. And with Larkey busted up we struggled against an average team
We got well beaten in stoppage clearance yesterday
Contested possession was even.
It was actually an even contest but North had zero key forwards and backs
And yet we struggled for 2 and half quarters and won by only 4 goals
We still lack pace around the ball and rely too much In winning the ball in close
We have little depth and some of our lower rank players are too poor

Mostly agreed, but don't you see how you're being unfair on Carlton when you point out that Carlton's midfield and NM's key positions were missing staff, but then place far greater emphasis on the latter to infer that we were lucky to have our way at either end of the ground but incompetent to lose the middle?

Norf were a little undisciplined as well. No need for Ziebell to shove TDK like that, for example.

I think we've got an OK run this year with umps though. We are starting to get more of the 50:50s go our way.

Anyway, we play in Adelaide next week so I'm sure we'll get reamed.

I know I'm repetitive about this guy but you set your standards with selection. As long as Lochie O'Brien is getting a game, the message to the list is that short steps and weak efforts will be tolerated.
Body size is no excuse. Hollands is as lightly built as anyone and he never shirks a contest. Same with Cerra. He's as tough as any.
Time for Voss to set some minimum standards. Your physical standards as a team are set by your weakest link.

Once again the backline held up well. Although I would have bought in Cincotta. Carroll was a strange choice IMO and Honey isn't AFL standard. McGovern is still a bit humbly but his ball use from defence is elite. Durdin isn't getting the rewards at the moment but I love his intensity.
Charlie is a freak. When you consider he is shorter than some of the midfielders in the game, his aerial work is superb. And the fact he's a brilliant kick makes him even more dangerous.

A good hitout but a shit finish. Vossy wont be happy and it gives us a definite area for improvement to focus on.

Today was the Roos grand final. The one day where the footy world actually watches or gives a shit about them. I thought they threw everything at us in the first half. They were more desperate. They went harder. We absorbed it then went bang.

Letting them kick the last 4 of the game was disappointing. Whether it's junk time or not, we just stopped. We need to finish games off.

Our bottom few were pretty ordinary today. And some of our kicking was just woeful. JSOS the worst offender. Hit a target ffs!

A bit to like. Plenty to improve on. Keep banking those wins blues.

This. I think you’ve nailed it

To suggest we were beaten for two and a half quarters is pretty misleading.

We took our foot off in the last 15 minutes.

They didn't beat us.
