Does anyone else think Ed Curnow might be out of the best 22 now ?

he was in our top five players for several of the games at the end if the season. sure we have a few trades with midfield class but ed showed he can make it happen up forward too, certainly explains the gibson delisting if they had to choose between the two.

Reading the first sentence then seeing Setterfield in over Dow confuses me a bit

Dow is 22 and Setterfield is 23? I would be happy with either

Just don't see Setterfield bringing much we don't already have unfortunately. Would have Kennedy ahead of him too. Dows speed can bring something a little different to the midfield both with and without the footy. Either way let's just hope someone can step up!!!

So, not counting our supplemental selection, and assuming that all players are 100% fit, this is our oldest 22 (23?) for 2022.

B: Newman - McDonald - Marchbank
HB: Docherty - Weitering - Saad
C: Newnes - Cripps - Williams
HF: Martin - Curnow, C. - Cuningham
F: Owies - McKay - Silvagni
R: Pittonet - Kennedy - Hewett

INT: Curnow, E. - McGovern - Plowman - Setterfield

SUB: Fisher

Same rules, except this is our most experienced (by virtue of games played) 22 (23):

B: Marchbank - McDonald - Newman
HB: Docherty - Weitering - Saad
C: Newnes - Cripps - Williams
HF: Martin - Curnow, C - Cerra
F: Fisher - McKay - McGovern
R: Silvagni - Hewett - Walsh

INT: Curnow, E - Plowman - Kennedy - Dow

SUB: Setterfield

I'm getting a little nervous that we haven't seen ANY players back in training and 'flying', fitter, stronger than ever before...
NONE!

On the other hand, no news about Charlie is good news... ;-)

Don’t worry, I’m sure I saw one of them wearing a hat….

Backline looks so much weaker without Jones. Really hope Young can step up. Or they get rid of the vax mandate.

Was having the same discussion this morning. Looks weaker without Jones.

200cm KPD who can play one on one against gorillas and out mark them, let alone elite intercept mark who can spoil...well.

BUT...

Jones' brain fades, biting off more than he can chew, and a lack of composure when pressure is on will not be missed.

Maybe under Voss' guidance and team defense mantra Jones' brain fades may have been ironed out.

Young isn't going to step into Jones' boots and give us all the attributes Jones excels in. Jones is a loss, but if Voss can weave some magic for Young to fulfill a role asked of him when playing against the 200cm forwards, the loss of Jones may just be covered by the new 'team' game...and Young may show composure beyond his years.

Game will be won and lost in the midfield.

Go Blues!

If anyone questions why we kept Dow on the list, have a look at a couple of his ground balls in this clip.
His hands and quick gives are as clean as anyones.

https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/carlton-2022-preview-season-predictions-for-the-blues/news-story/f9da2add6a99fe8dea82442a41022830

And first up, we have the HS previewing our season.
Forecast is that we win 4 of our first 6 matches, including beating Richmond in Round 1 and Port Adelaide in Round 5 at the MCG (which, I guess is plausible given Voss' inside knowledge).
Gee, if we beat the Tigers in Round 1, Voss the Boss will get an immediate contract extension and elevation into the CFC Hall of Fame!

FWIW, they list our best 22 as:
B: Stocker, Weitering, Newman
HB: Saad, McGovern, Williams
C: Hewett, Sam Walsh, Dow
HF: J.Martin, C. Curnow, Fisher
F: Silvagni, McKay, E. Curnow
Foll: Pittonet Cripps Cerra
INT: De Koning, Young, Setterfield, Newnes
SUB: Kemp
EMG: Plowman, J. Motlop, Owies, Honey
And they note that Docherty comes back in when fit.

Not terrible although I'd include:
Plowman ahead of Young, Kennedy for Setterfield (until Setterfield lifts a long way), and Kemp for Newnes.
And I'd hope that Marchbank, Motlop and Cunningham push their way into the team (as well as Docherty) as the year progresses.
If McGovern can't deliver, then I'd try Silvagni back there, or bring in Young at that point.
