Tries to do too much. Ambition often outweighs ability. I can't remember a player who gets caught for hold in the ball as often. Gives away a lot of free kicks as well.

He gives it his all but just not quite at the level. He'll always be your 23 - 26 player. Having said all that, solid back up and can come in and do a job in multiple positions. Not delistibg material yet, but don't expect him to ever be more than that

PROS
JSOS kicked a goal.
Did I tell you he was BOG for Carlton again?

Midfield group delivered.
Worked to their strengths.
Cripps was intense, tackled in close with vice like grips and won lots of ball. Dished it out.

Kennedy tough. Dow speeds up our game.
Walsh equal BOG....................what am I saying? He was.

Backline held up
Harry
Charlie cameo
Fisher was OK.
Honey was sweet as expected. Keep him in the 22.

CONS

last quarter goals
umpiring not paying same frees to both sides.
TDK injury.
Murphy was embarrassing.
Our injury list

Daylight between Honey and Cottrell it would seem.

When I look at Billings, I have horrible flashbacks to that opportunist and piece of crap MIlne. Both played for the right club.

A joy to watch all the young ones move the ball from goal to goal up the middle for a major. Dow and O'Brien were hitting it lace out like Hawthorn players. Hope Clarkson enjoyed the view. :sly:

Fisher was electric.

Weitering's response to King marking lace out kicks was impressive.

Cripps isn't starring, but is taking the hits for his teammates and playing a sacrificial role for our young blood. Frees up Walsh, Kennedy, Dow and the rest.

Owies may need a rest after looking off tonight.

Great comparison

How could the MC...I guess you have to look at everyone and different strengths and weaknesses.

We've known Honey is a good one for a while now.

Every club has had a we took x instead of y moment, but taking Billings at 3 ahead of Bont at 4 is up there with the best/ worst of them

Just shows you tonight how even things are especially in the middle of the ladder. Having Harry and Charlie massive help, and St kilda were as bad tonight as we were last week.

Overall doesn’t change my views much, I wasn’t that down after last week and assumed we’d be better tonight (though not necessarily win).

Great to get a win though and see Charlie back, LOB good and Honey showed a bit too.

Pros:

What a great way to start the weekend. Always good to beat St Kilda.
Defensive pressure. Tackles and smothers.
Accuracy.
Centre clearances.
Forward entries.
Walsh, SOJ and Harry.
Dow's kicking was better than I've ever seen.
Honey was very good. I know Owies has had a good year, but Honey's pace made a huge difference.
Loved the defensive pressure of Fisher.
Good recovery from Weiters, after being torched early.
Don't believe O'Brien will make it. He's far too timid. But he found more ball than he usually does. Took a mark in the defensive hole. And a couple of his kicks into forward 50 were outstanding.
Thought Charlie helped us structurally, even if he didn't do much. Even showed a little bit of his old bounce and athleticism in one marking contest in the 2nd quarter.

Cons:

Another injury, and to a ruckman.
I thought the umpiring was infuriatingly inconsistent as well with holding the ball decisions.
Still don't think we've worked out how to use Saad. I love him as a player. Defends, but also is incredibly dangerous with ball in hard.
I like how we're nursing Murphy to 300. But gee he looks disinterested. 4 possessions in half a game is very, very poor.

Pleasing tonight to see the improvements of JSOS, Dow, LOB and Honey. After competing in the ruck JSOS became the extra midfielder to help us with our clearances. Dow and LOB getting more of the ball and improving their decision making going forward. Honey coming in and dishing off 3 assists before getting one of his own. LOB and Honey must play the rest of the season. We are much better with them.

Finally, how good was it having Charlie out there? He didn't do much, but just getting him through the game brought a smile onto all of our faces. Get stuffed Ross Lyon.

I guess you could call when Milne did opportunism. Probably a stronger word for it but.

No mention of his 2 goal contribution?

I think LOB is one of those players that plays similar, if not better, in the 1s than in the 2s.

There have been a few like that.

Woke up this morning with a smile.
Love winning, but beating the team on the rise (supposedly) was brilliant.

Was thinking OBrien played at good game and like Honey, much better tha the 2 players they replaced, Cottrell and Samo.
I don't think OBrien hits the contest hard enough, which is similar to Samo, but his run and pressure was helpful.

Honey finally.

No mention, no highlights of the game on Channel 7 here in Sydney, but did on Channel 9/
I'm keeping a watch and looking for the Channel 7 executive whose got his/her mitts on editing Carlton out of the limelight.

Still can't believe we are in contention for Finals, with DeKonning out injured after first quarter, joining the other 13 on the sidelines injured.
Pretty good effort.

Boys brought Desire to the game.

Good point. He's on my mind.
I would like one last look at him next 3 matches to see if he can bring some physicality, mongrel to the contest.
If he can't, then he's just another very good athlete playing footy for mine.

Very happy with OBrien's performance.

Where the @#$%&! was this Carlton last week? Sadly I can’t shake the thought that has we won last week we wouldn’t have seen last night’s result.

Except for the last quarter (rubbing Aints fans’ faces in the dirt even more would’ve been satisfying), our most complete performance for the year. Given our players continually dropping (FFS) this is one week where a drop-off can be forgiven. JSOS was heroic and led the way there.

Happy to be proven wrong too about Charlie making it back to the field, but I’m not popping the champagne yet.

And isn’t it amazing how much of a difference straight kicking and giving kids a go from the VFL who have earned it makes?
