We have 34 fit players to choose from.

However:
Ramsay: 0 games
Durdin: 0 games, just back from injury
Boyd: 0 games, just joined the club
Gibbons - coming back from a hammy.
Kemp: 0 games
Carroll: 0 games

That leaves 28 players.

Cottrell has only *just* been dropped to find form.
Murphy the same.
Do they need at least 2 games in the VFL to press their case?

Martin has been in bad form since he returned, and is due to be dropped.

That leaves 25 players to choose from.

Picking 6 defenders, 6 forwards, 2 rucks and 8 mids:

Williams - Jones - Docherty
Newman - Weitering - Saad
Fisher - Kennedy - SPS
Fogarty - McKay - Honey
Owies - Silvagni - Betts
De Koning - Walsh - Cripps

Pittonet - Stocker - Dow - E. Curnow

Sub from: O'Brien - Williamson - Newnes

I came to the same conclusion.

I'd consider Murphy as the 23rd to get his 5 games needed for 300, out of the way.
As mentioned earlier, we have an excuse to select him after his good game in the Ressies

The starting time for this game has been changed to 4.10 for anyone who is interested.

I’d be bringing Kemp in for this game, move Stocker into the midfield.

Bring in Honey also, drop Martin.

Boyd for Fisher.

I’d consider dropping Doc and Ed too. Ed is a liability if he isn’t going to tag right now.

Just realised I'm taking children to circus at 3pm on Sunday. Double booking would never have happened in the past. Cue gags about which event will have more clowns running around...

So you are taking the kids to the match on Sunday then? Your kids will grow up being scarred by clowns if you do that

Ed is the least of our problems, he runs defensively better than any of our other mids except maybe Walsh, and he can follow a team plan, if we had one. Our problem isn’t lack of talent.

We really have fallen off the perch this year.

I know we got smashed by the cellar dweller in the last round of 2020, but we still pencilled in the return game as a win.

Adelaide are favourites to win this.

Its an indictment on the players and coaches to lose last year, and to be playing as we have been whilst the much ridiculed Crows are growing in confidence simultaneously as their game plan develops.

If only our coaches had a defensive mindset and the players had a never say die competitive spirit.

I don't disagree with that side but I would have Ed and Walsh running the wings since Marvel is not wide and they won't get lost on the outside and play SPS in the guts where he has been playing in the reserves. Also with the roof open its likely to be wet which suits him. I'd also have Murph as sub.

For me

OUT: Parks (inj) Martin (omit), Newnes (omit), Fogarty (omit)

LUCKY: Newman (he's the tallest available, with only Williamson and Kemp to choose from for 3rd tall defender). Williams lucky the cupboard is bare and he's barley ahead of the Emergencies named); he's on notice.

I want Stocker tried in the middle but have not enough confidence in Doc in the backline atm.

IN: SPS, Honey , Murphy

B: Newman Jones Stocker
HB: Saad Weitering Williams

R: Pittonet Dow Walsh
C: Docherty Cripps Curnow

HF: Honey Silvagni Owies
F: Betts McKay DeKoning

IC: Kennedy SPS Fisher Murphy

E: Fogarty Newnes Ramsay Gibbons

I'll take Wailliams and Saad out of the backline.

Saad can be our Mil Hanna and play on the wings.

B: Stocker Jones Parks
HB: Docherty Weitering Newman
C: Williams Cripps Saad
HF: Owies McKay Gibbons
F: Betts TDK Silvagni
R: Pitonet Walsh Murphy
IC: SPS Williamson Fisher Ed
E: Martin Dow Honey

Fisher, Williams and Ed on notice.

Williams is barely fit enough to play half back, there’s no way he can play off a wing right now. I’d be dropping him into the VFL, make him play wing/on ball and only bring him back once he’s fit.

For me, it is Docherty and Williams on notice. They are both senior players who have been falling short due to their own preparation and commitment.
I think Fisher is a bit out of water in a v difficult position given our game plan and delivery but he is trying.
Ed is always trying and has been a bit out of sorts but has runs on the board (assuming you mean Curnow).
Eddie, similarly has banked some excellent form in recent weeks but he wouldn't want another game of minimal impact.

If Pittonet needs ankle surgery looks like we need someone to play second ruck, if Levi is suspended then the cupboard is bare, maybe we have Cripps play second ruck?
