I tried to get my girls to be Lions supporters, as they were born up here, but sadly my obsession with all things Blue has made them follow Carlton.

I have to say I tried to help them but they have come on board as supporters to their own detriment.

Time to turn it around, so they dont have to have years of heartache like we all have.

G-d spoke thusly: build me an arc and place within it two of every creature. Especially young, female, self-directed Carlton supporters. For in the world to come, after the flood, we will surely need a new generation of supporters.

Feed them well dude. Keep them healthy. The breeding program is almost apon us.

I've started watching games a day or 2 after the result. Stops our performances ruining my weekend.

many years ago in the late 80’s my parents would take me along to a game, my favourite player was The Dominator... I didn’t have the attention span to focus on what was happening out on the field, one of my vivid memories was a game at Moorabbin - Tony Lockett kicked way too many goals to count, there was a punch-on in the outer and beer cans everywhere after the game!

My parents and brother went to the 1987 Grand Final - they asked if I wanted to go and not knowing much about VFL back then I asked who we were playing and knowing we lost to Hawthorn the year before I decided to stay home - what a regrettable choice when I was 10 years old.

Fast forward to 1993 - 15 years old and my parents forced me to come and watch Carlton v Hawthorn at Princes Park in Round 3. I was mesmerised by the skill of the players and the sheer joy of watching the cheer squad and navy blue faithful rise as one in the Robert Heatley Stand when Kernahan kicked the match winning goal... I attended every game for the rest of the year and so begun my deep hatred for Essendon* from the 1993 Grand Final.

I’ll always be navy blue and support this club - was fortunate to be in the Ponsford Stand for the 1995 Grand Final and still have vivid and happy memories from that day... thought Grand Finals and premierships were guaranteed every few years!

My father played for the U19 Carlton side in the early 60’s - hence why there was no choice on which team to support, Dad was a member for many, many years with plenty of amazing stories of late nights at the social club. When the club said goodbye to Princes Park as an AFL venue, my Dads support went with it as he was disgusted that all our home matches would be played at Docklands and the MCG.

A day out at the football was never the same again - leave home at 11am and arrive in Carlton around 12, a pub meal at The Rising Sun Hotel or the Great Northern... then walking through the streets up to Princes Park, sometimes arriving to find the entry gates locked due to the game being sold out and only being able to get in due to having a reserved seat, then after a win returning to the pub to analyse the win and watch highlights on the replay.

So many great memories and I’m sure many more to look forward to in years to come.

I really enjoy reading these Carlton stories.

I still can't get over how well posters remember individual games.

I played senior footy from 16yo, and missed a lot of saturday arvo games.
I did attend many games posters recall, and I can't remember all the details like they do.

  Thanks for sharing the story S77

Great story, the only GF I ever attended was the 93 one and I’ve hated the scum ever since, that was the day they over took Collingwood as the chief enemy.

I don’t remember much about individual games in the 80s but I do remember the sense of community in the standing area where we always used to be at PP, my mates Nan used to bring us all sandwiches to the game. I once left my umbrella on the ground, the next week some bloke gave it back to me as he’d seen me leave it and knew I’d be back in the same spot the next week.

I remember the peanut guy too, “Peanuts!”.
