Let's hope we can bring the pressure tomorrow.

Just watched a game against Hawthorn in 1995. Comparing it to now, in every aspect, was like comparing chalk and cheese. So well drilled and understood every move of their teammates. Never seen pressure, hardness, skill like it and still don't see it in the current era from any side. Forgot what it was like. Hawthorn were physically and mentally shattered mess by the last qtr. I've never been big on ruck stuff but watching Madden I forgot what the craft was like. Won near every tap, tapped with authority, knew where he was tapping, and the Carlton mids, knew where it was coming, read it so well and jumped on it like a seagull on a hot chip. His tap work made Nic Nat to his mids look like an amateur. There was barely one out of the centre didn't go to advantage. Must've been 90% to advantage out of the centre.

Where did it all go? Admittedly that was one of the great individual sides of all time but still, we are the opposite that side in every respect. It's a reminder of what we need to bring if we are ever going to rise right up the ladder again.

Do yourself a favour & watch the first qtr of us & Geelong at PP the same year, one of the best quarters of footy you'll ever see. Both teams.

Probably the best and most exhilarating game of football I’ve ever seen at Princes Park.

Although I would have liked to have been at the Carlton -v- Geelong game 23rd June 1990 when we came back from 48 points down to win - but had another more pressing engagement that day - the birth of my beautiful daughter.

Silvagni goal to win it?

We won by 19 points, pretty comfortably in the end. But Silvagni completely turned the game when Jezza shifted him to CHF after half time.

Incredibly, he got no Brownlow votes that day, & missed out by 2 to Libba.

SCG due to Covid-19

Out: Casboult, Gibbons, Setterfield, Cottrell, Murhpy

In: Don't care

In: Murphy
Out: Forgerty and Setterfield

How does Murphy get a game over those two? I know he’s played a few good quarters this season but 120 minutes?

Wilting is a five to ten goal loss. Just saying.

West Coast coming off a bagging from their coach will be raring to go. With our current players available on fitness and form, and with our current coaching group, I don't think we're any chance at all.

West coast have a few outs. Not a guarantied loss. I’ll not be quitting on the team even if everyone more knowing is.

Tell Cripps and Walsh to make way?

Exactly. Cripper healing injuries now or finding a bit of form and confidence at least. Walsh is AFL elite every flowering week. the team is not playing as a team must. Years of honourable losing on very professional wages created a culture of good enough is ok. will take time to turn the culture around. Carlton use to buy premierships when I was a kid. Recruit from SA and WA, and poach from the rivals. job done. as we all know the John Elliott approach doesn’t work in today’s era.

It's called rotation.
Name any other club that relies on 3 mids like our stupid club does.
In this modern game you need at least 6 - 8 mids , gone are the days of 3 or 4 on ballers.
It's no coincidence that we keep leaking red time goals coz our only 3 mids are cooked after busting there gut for 20min

Um, best midfield in league with one of the deepest midfield lists is bulldogs. about seven midfielders who’d be auto picks every week at Carlton. And yet even with that depth, Bontapelli, Macrae, and Libba start every week. No rotating them out of the team. Just through the structure and the bench. Add Tralor Dunkley and young Balley Smith if you like.

Yeah we lack midfield depth of mature and/or elite players. So what? Cripps and Walsh start every week unless injured.

One of Carlton's greatest ever H&A victories.

In my top 10 H&A games since 1968

Great reminder CK

My birthday game to remember.

Closing line of the newspaper report sound familiar? Not that we can use schizophrenic to describe sporting performance today, but we get the drift.

A loss this week would be catastrophic.

I reckon the coaches would be nervous if we lost.

I know I'm getting old and possibly struggling with comprehension but this conversation reminds me of a Fawlty Towers episode.

Tomorrows game at the SCG between 2 non Sydney based teams.
Glad I didnt end up going to Giants Stadium last night. Closed off 3/4 of the seating areas, probably to keep the catering costs down.

Seating for tomorrow at the SCG is limited. Strange limited.

I didn't want to watch the game in the Members and chose to join a Carlton family.
They could only get seats at the Clive Churchill stand, around the 50 metre mark.
Talk about limited. Hopefully we will venture up the Briwongle stand.

Anyone else going to the NSW Carlton Supporters function at the Capt Cook Hotel across the road?
I've registered, but got kids footy game beforehand, so who knows.

I hope the Carlton support doubles the Eagles...and hope Umpire No. 22 Naiffen is not umpiring (if that's what you call what he does)
