Melbourne were average. They were never troubled today but they made a lot of mistakes.

I don't mean forced errors as we did pressure the ball carrier more in the first half than we have in a while, but they made a lot of unforced mistakes today.

We were miles off it and sadly rely heavily on individuals either winning 1 on 1s or doing special things it happened a bit. Betts with some nice Eddie stuff early and Harry kicking a few.

But for a team with no discernable system we are absolutely dependent on having our best 22 individual players available at all times. And we know that doesn't happen. Ever.

On the flip side, our injury subs get a lot of game time.

I long for the days when we won’t have to mitigate and justify every bloody performance and just @#$%&! win.

They ain’t coming I know. But I still long for them.

Just to add something different to all the comments.

McKay was injured although stayed on the ground. Levi is injured/out of form. This equals no tall forwards. The coaching staff obviously could not see that.

As a suggestion why not Cripps up forward and Setterfield as a big body inside mid.

The demons defence had a field day today.

Just commenting on how stiff David Cuningham was in sustaining a knee injury today. I think he played all of 15 seconds before going down.

Cripps has a busted back.

We are carrying injured players in Cripps, Levi and Williams, why, I don't know, lost Cunningham early, Harry was reduced, we have plenty of others out. Probably did well to get within 26pts.

We had several seriously poor performances in the backline tonight, but there is one senior player who just stands out like Waldo to me.

Lachie Plowman had 87% TOG
9 touches, 2 contested, 150m gained
2 intercepts
2 uncontested marks
4 one percenters
Anddd
2 turnovers
2 free free kicks against
0 tackles
8 pressure acts
0 of any other stats basically

A total spectator

I thought Cripps busted a gut today, 10 tackles and lots of hard grunt work, I think people just see what they want to see with him at the moment. He wasn’t at his absolute best but he was certainly good.

Murph wasn’t terrible either, though not really showing why we had him continue on. (I guess he’s a better user of the ball and a better tank than most of the VFL guys)

Thing is I can easily see us losing to Hawthorn.

I don’t think effort is the issue, it’s his inability to make decisions and get caught with the ball so often.

Injuries are a part of footy
Recruiting as I have said repeatedly is the main problem
Our midfield according to champion data is the second worst in the league

The club also accepts average or below average performance from players and gives them a contract

To me the club has gone backwards from where it was at two years ago.

It needs an injection of something
It was good to see Stocker in the middle today
Keep him there let him get better because he will

Teague seems lost
A bad week for the club

I've tried to be the glass half full guy but this game has ruined me. Stupidly I actually thought we would win this one but the truth is we were never in the hunt.

I can't remember the last time I've felt so flat after a game.

The horrifying thing is next week could be worse.

Having just watched the game there is a real lack of effort
Some guys naturally have that
I really like Owies. He seems to play with intensity to me
Stocker ditto
But so many other blokes don’t play that way.

The club needs to abandon what course they were on and change tact.
Make a statement
We are clearly not developing
For instance I would drop Murphy.
Pointless playing him . Give him a send off game in round 23. Thanks for being loyal but the game is about the club not individual stats and games
Ramsay has shown he plays with intent in the reserves.
Play him in the seniors to fast track his development .
To me things like this are a no brainer
The club won’t play finals
It’s good to see Cottrell and others getting game time.
There needs to me more of this

Interesting expectation going into a game against a team 8-0.

Don’t get me started on Plowman

Such a nothing player. Offers little leadership for a senior player.

Yet has comfortably been in our best 22 for the last 6 years

Our standards have dropped that much that he is considered a good player by some

He is fortunate he has played during this era as I don’t think he would have lasted long when we were actually good

Agree
The question we have to ask is why does it happen at Carlton

Agree. Wasn’t outstanding but Cripps played well.

Some of the comments about his performance are off the mark. Has become the whipping boy.

It’s a player like Setterfield who needs to be exposed. Only showed glimpses when the game was lost.

Has credits in the bank
