Essendon*** got him with pick 8 in the draft
No second guess as to how they acquired pick 8

Maybe do try that second guess. Pick 8 turned into pick 10 on draft night so Bombers actually got Reid with our pick.

Cox looks like a good player though.

Worth noting we also landed Durdin as part of the Saad trade (pick 48 and next years 3rd rounder went to the Swans for 31) so will be interesting to see how he progresses.

If we had picked him he would either be playing twos or sitting in a forward pocket. For the life of me I can't understand why we went all in on bringing Saad onboard because of his run and carry and then not actually utilise those weapons.

This is what I'd like to see, as opposed to what we will actually see:

Plowman - Jones - Parks
Saad - Weitering - Docherty
Cottrell - Cunningham - O'Brien
SPS - McGovern - Williams
Silvagni - McKay - Fogarty
Pittonet - Walsh - Stocker

Murphy - E. Curnow - Cripps - Betts
Sub: Newnes

Pitto does the centre bounces and between the arcs, Cripps does most of the forward-line ruck work and Jones does most of the back-line work. McGovern takes three or four centre bounces as a chop-out (not much more than one per quarter).
I'd like to see Cripps do centre-bounces then move to full-forward, allowing a more mobile midfield to tackle the around the ground stuff. I know he's hit or miss as a forward, but they're stretched in the backline without Francis, and if he stays deep, with Harry ahead of him and McGovern and Silvagni working hard up the wings, we can open them up. Essendon* love to play from the back and that means that SPS and Williams are going to have to use their defenders instincts to stop that.

It was Zac Reid.

Actually been watching Saad. Especially last week. He is often alone and ignored when we have the ball.

Poor coaching IMO.

He's not a top 5 player. But if we use it he has a top 5 weapon. I just don't understand the thought process in bringing him in to add dangerous run and carry if we don't use it. I mean, we didn't buy the bloke for his lockdown skills.

We haven't had a dynamic player quite like Saad in recent years. He changes the look & feel of our movement big time, & will take a little while to gel with the team & vice versa.

Would love it if it all fell into place against his old side on sunday

Friday night.
6.45pm

and not even a @#$%&! squad to look at.

Yeah plenty to read about the new draftees for them, but that's it.

Its a disgrace and a total disrespect for the past and the culture of the VFL / AFL.

Apparently the clubs wanted this.

Well I will tell Carlton I will not renew 3 of my family's 4 memberships next year till I hear they announce our teams or squad on a Thursday night.

Stuff them, like they stuff me.

Plus the other 20 memberships I buy for others. They can wait too.

As for my membership....

Who else is annoyed by this?

I think this is a window into how harsh we are on our own players, and the halo effect we apply to others outside our AFL team (including our VFL players who somehow become game-breakers that should immediately be brought into the seniors even though they have repeatedly failed).

Perception is reality.

There is a bit of that 17th.
We watch our players closer than others do, and vice versa, and we feel every mistake they make, and it sticks in our memory banks, for a long long time.

All players make mistakes. Ditto List managers and Board Members and Coaches....but not you and me.

Thanks BB, much appreciate it and glad you corrected the record.

I’m all for constructive criticism and I get that we tend to comment more on the bad stuff than the good (much like most parents do as well).

Sometimes, I just think we can be a bit too harsh on our own but happy to be corrected.

(Although I do hope that Phillips doesn’t make fools of us on Sunday!)

Absolutely. It's piss poor.
It's not necessarily Carlton but it's indicative of the general attitude of AFL clubs.

Because if you have noticed it’s important that docherty has the ball in his hand , Because we need to keep our turnover count high !!

How else are we going to help sides beat us

Parks should return to the defence. The move of SPS out of the backline for Stocker was OK but Newnes into the defensive rotation wasn't successful.
It will be interesting to see if Newnes returns to his offensive wing role or if he cops it in the neck for his effort last week.
