Talking about a change in tune from Ralph in the Herald Sun, I liked reading this

Quote:
Carlton fans are already considering the impact new coach Michael Voss might have on their emerging players with Paddy Dow one who surely will benefit from mentoring from one of footy’s greatest midfielders.

Dow played his best footy from Rounds 12-20 with contested possession counts of 10, 9, 7, 13, 9, 9 10 and 6 during that time before a quieter finish to the season.

Speculation Richmond might be interested in Dow was quickly shut down this week, with the No.3 overall pick contracted for next year and fully committed to the Blues.

But with George Hewett, and likely Adam Cerra, playing in the Blues midfield alongside Patty Cripps, Sam Walsh, Matt Kennedy, Will Setterfield and Lachie Fogarty, there will be massive competition for spots.

Michael Voss hopes to speak to Sam Petrevski-Seton about his imminent departure next week, but the Blues can’t hope for much in return from West Coast.

Competition for spots in the midfield group with no mention of other players recruited as mids on our list... Ed, Fisher, Stocker, Docherty, Williams, OBrien and new kids on the block in Philp, Kemp, Carroll, Ramsay...hey even Martin goes through then, and Vossy talking to SPS ... there's a lot of competition for spots, and frankly I can't see Fogarty in the midfield group other than to play an Ed role for his defensive strengths. But I think you're going to have to be the a one trick pony in the Vossy era.

Cripps Hewett Kennedy are the real big bodies, Walsh Dow Cerra can also play an inside and outside role, Stocker too. Williams has something to prove as a mid and they can all play hard like Fogarty, but they can kick for goal from further out than Fogarty, making them dangerous when they around the 50m arc.

Plenty of support for Voss from the scribes in the media which proves to me they were a huge part in Teague's character assassination, and the negative press they were able to use to smear the Carlton brand.

IMO we need a ruckman to stand up in 2022.

... and need some back up for talls in defense.....anyone have news on Oscar McDonald?

Looks like Riccardi is going to resign with GWS for 2 years. He was on our radar too.

Grand final showed you need more than a good mid field. Need a brilliant one. A brilliant ruck does not hurt either.

Unfortunately Caleb ‘s made of glass, but let’s be positive & keep our fingers crossed that 2022 is his consistent year. We needs some luck

Remember the tigers with Grimes and Astbury injured for a number of years early on. They came good and so did Richmond. We have hope.

Pick 6 Cerra and replaces Casboult

Pick 25 Drafted player 1 replaces Murphy

Pick 61 Draft player 2 replaces ???

Pick 80ish Draft pick player replaces ??? or upgrades Kennedy

Hewett (RFA not matched) replaces ?????

At least 2 more players to come off our list. Is that right?

Has to be Gibbons, Ramsay...maybe re rookie Ramsay for Betts.

Rookies Out of contract can be kept another year (covid rule??) Honey, Cottell, Boyd, Kennedy Owies (NGA),

Have I got this right? Anyone?

SPS can go either way if Vossy can't see a decent Trade for him, plus sees potential to improve said player (or his value).
Expect Voss to keep LOB and see if he can teach him how to use his big body as a weapon, and not get hurt (much)??

That's what I'm hoping.

I don't believe Marchbank is made of Glass. He might be.
Neck fracture was from standing in front of the pack. ACL is bad luck after 5 years in the system. He had a soft tissue after he recovered from neck? Hamstring? Blame Russell  He can take it.

From what I've read list sizes aren't changing in 2022, so my understanding is the following remains :-

Primary List = 38 players maximum

Rookie List (Cat A) = 6 players maximum

Combined (Primary + Cat A) = 42 players maximum

Rookie List (Cat B) = 2 players maximum

TOTAL (Primary + Cat A + Cat B) = 44 players maximum (37 players minimum)

At season's end we had 36 on the primary list, 8 Cat A and 1 Cat B for a total of 45 players.

36 primary list - Murphy - Casboult = 34 primary list
8 cat A - Betts = 7 cat A
1 cat B

So as a minimum something like ...
Move Kennedy from cat A to primary (35 primary, 6 cat A)
Delist 3 primary list players to accommodate Hewett, Cerra and 2 picks in the National Draft (Kennedy's upgrade would count as third pick)

That would get us to 36 primary + 6 cat A + 1 cat B

Make sense

Yes agree there’re the fables too, let’s hope we have some luck , we have a few players in Caleb’s situation would have a huge positive impact to team performance. Let’s keep fingers crossed.

I’d like us to come out with a plan B to the Cerra trade, just to keep Freo honest.

Maybe Cognilio for a future first and AFL to continue to pay his additional services fee.

Even if it’s complete BS, gives another angle

I’d also try swap StKilda’s pick this year for ours next year. They’ll need three firsts if they’re going to poach King

Coniglio might get back to being a half decent player, but his is the worst contract in the AFL.

Worse than Grundy.

I hope we keep all our young talent. Voss should be given a year to see what he can do with them. Can't underestimate what two years of limited playing due to COVID can do. I see a lot of ability in our group. No need for many changes.

Cerra & Hewitt will be great additions. I'd like to see some Key position players added

Isn’t 100s of 1000s of AFL endorsements? Surely his value to the Italian community is as valuable in Carlton as it is in Greater Western Sydney
