Cripps is determined to be the mega star we need to win games and just can’t do it all.
Perhaps pushes himself to hard to do the specular things at times.
I agree he should be mentoring and supporting our youngsters by example to better performance.

Pick 5 in 2015 Draft

He turns 24 in July.
Will be playing his 100th game v Carlton.

He was laughed at prior to this year.

It takes time to make the grade, unless you're Walsh.

Cuningham was taken at pick 22 ish
He turns 24 this year

Dow and OBrien turn 22 this year...IIRC Dow in December.
Stocker turns 21 this year, Setterfield 23. Fisher 23. DeKoning 22 Cottrell 21.

That is true. However, I could also point to Freo's young midfield of Sering, Brayshaw and Cerra. They are all Dow's draft or younger and going alot better than our mids

I look at their stats and the hype that goes with that. Dows done well imo compared to them...they are all on par...22 yo's

We are a biigger club hence more srutiny.

True. I'm being bias and am not putting the heat on the players TBH. Maybe I should. maybe its something else. Maybe Dow hasn't had the same amount of time around the ball as those 3.

I think Brayshaw is a gun. Serong tough as nails. Cerra, the jury is out, like Dow, but doing ok imo.

Pick 4 Cerra first year 13 disposals. This year 19 dispsoals
Pick 2 Brayshaw first year 15 disposals. This year 26
Pick 8 Serong first year 16 disposals. This year 24.

Crippa needs to do what fyfe and mundy did for
Cerra Brayshaw and serong development and we would be a much better side

Crippa first qtr on Saturday was a good example , feeed them and let them run

Dow would be a much better player if crippa feeding him the ball

Totally agree.

When he was feeding off the chain forward began into the forwardline.
Stood out like dogs balls

Before being dropped I remember Dow running past Crippa 3 times and was ignored despite being in a better position than Cripps.
Media picked that up, as did we.

Former Fremantle coach Ross Lyon has defended Carlton and their recent decisions at the draft.
The Blues underwent a full rebuild in 2015 under the direction of Stephen Silvagni, using 10 first round picks between 2015 and 2019.
They have come under criticism this year for the development of the likes of Paddy Dow, Lochie O’Brien, Liam Stocker and Sam Petrevski-Seton in particular, with the quartet not yet reaching the lofty expectations out of their draft years.

However, Lyon believes Carlton has done a good job overall at the draft table.

Its the however part we need answers on, and he doesn't give any other than suggesting development.
He doesn't know or refer Stocker is 20yo, and Dow and OBrien still 21yo.
Please explain Gary

Gary Lyon weighs in support for SOS on Footy Classified:

“They’re saying (Carlton’s recruiting) is not successful. Jacob Weitering, Harry McKay and Sam Walsh. Stars on every line,”

Gary, you're right, they are stars, and you forgot to mention Charlie who had already stamped his name in the comp at 20yo, but so should the picks being No. 1 Draft.

We got them for ending on bottom of the ladder, not through trading for picks or getting latter picks right.

Quote:
“Tom De Koning is a young star, offered a first round pick last year I think by Geelong (for him).
“David Cuningham, real spread and kick, I know clubs are looking at him.
“Sam Philp played Round 1 last year, he’s been injured since then.

I agree Gary. All future stars and have already shown something.

Pencil them in for our best 22. Absolute winners.

Who says the list isn't good?

We have plenty to build on under the captains Cripps and Docherty (currently playing under injury duress).

“Lochie O’Brien played 19 games in a row and then they go and get Jack Newnes and he gets pushed out of the team. There’s some criticism around Newnes. He does some nice things, but I’m not sure he’s at the level. O’Brien’s got growth and run.

Maybe some truth in that, but OBrien has been given plenty of games. He's 21yo and nearly played 50 games.

He needs some more development, and he might, I say might, come good.

I like him on a wing for his running power under the new rules.
We need wingmen who can run up and down the ground quickly and for a long time to give support in defence and feed the forwards and help keep the ball in forwardline.

Keep working on OBrien and see if it clicks.
Screwing up in the seniors infront of a huge crowd at the G, whilst learning the game, stuffed up his confidence big time.
We need a confident OBrien playing in the seniors.

Quote:
“I think the question is on Sam Petrevski-Seton and Paddy Dow, but Liam Stocker had four (best on grounds) in the twos, went to half-back and then they put him on Charlie Cameron in the biggest game.

“They gave him a challenge which I liked and he stood up.

“Then there’s Will Setterfield who’s now on a wing who can go inside.”

Lyon believes it’s time the Blues moved beyond veterans Eddie Betts and Marc Murphy and got more exposure into these youngsters.

Must be reading Talking Carlton

Have to agree with Garry, our list is good enough to take us to finals, whether we go further we won’t know until we play a number of finals.

Our real problem is what we’re doing with the playing list we have. The playing group as a whole needs to evolve if we are to get anywhere, but buggered if I know what can trigger such an evolution in mindset and culture.

Pressure for spots. No gifting games. Strict Coach. Picking on Form. Playing fit players. Development. Unconditional expectations. Game Plan to suit personnel.

The Football Dept obviously has some ideas they throw around all summer.

Here's looking at players on our list now, (minus 27yo+) who can be around for the next 5 years, plus add a FA/ Trade/ Draftee every year on top of this:

B: Stocker Weitering Marchbank................Parks
HB: Williams Kemp Philp

C: Carroll Walsh Honey
R: De Koning Cripps Martin

HF: Cuningham McKay Fisher
F: Durdin Curnow Silvagni ....................McGovern

IC: SPS Dow Setterfield (all mids)

OBrien Ramsay Fogarty Cottrell

OUT: Eddie Murphy Levi Ed Jones Newnes Plowman Saad Docherty

EDIT: also out and under 27yo, much younger than 27yo Williamson Kennedy Pittonet Owies Gibbons McDonald...who knows, one or two may come good and replace one or two from the abovementioned.

Its up to the players to push for selection too. Knock the door down

Lyon is mates with SOS.
It is worth noting however that if it weren't for the injuries to Charlie and Marchbank we would be in much better shape.

If it was that easy why haven’t we done this before? And why doesn’t every club do this?

It sounds more like common sense than a revolution.

We have a very good list except they never play together.. top four type list imo. But when 30% of your top talent is constantly injured and not training with intensity with their mates week in and week out what good is having a finals type list.

I have no problem showing faith to our young injured stars that are injury prone and hardly play a game. But I would seriously consider delisting the lot of them and brining in players that are durable and play every week.

I prefer an above average player training with intensity with their mates every week than a young star that never plays a game of football. Delist the lot of them.

I'd say no because he's clearly a flower... but he's also more-or-less mentored by Betts. Playing alongside him again might be what he needs.
