Because we seem to have a lot of stress fractures in the summer leading up to the start of every season.

It's lush... carpet like. Not an issue.

So then that narrows it down to the body or the training loads I guess.
Fingers crossed that's the severity of it for the off season.

Disappointing for TDK. Another year where we enter round 1 already a few players down. Will be relying quite heavily on Levi again this year. He’s probably pencilled in already for a key forward spot given Charlie isn’t playing for at least half the year (realistically it will likely end up being a lot more than that). He’s now the only bloke on the list that can actually back up Pittonet in the ruck if need be. He’s also still probably the best back up key position defender behind Weiters and Jones. Think Oscar McDonald will get the nod to join the list eventually but I’d still probably back Levi to do a job back there over him - like at the end of 2019 when he performed well as a key defender. I’m generally a fan of Levi - he gives it a crack and he’s durable - but at some point we need these young tall blokes to get fit and demand positions otherwise what’s to say we won’t be in this same position 12 months down the track

Which young talls?

Marchbank & Parks might be ok to replace either Plowman or Docherty, but we’ll have to find a whole new set up if Jones or Weitering are out of action. McDonald will be added to the list, but he’s different again, certainly not as mobile as the two big guns & a bit of a risk at 95% game time.

The drive to Maryborough and back each day must be pretty tough on the body.

Referring across the board to the young talls we’ve drafted and traded in - Weiters, Harry, Charlie, Macreadie, Marchbank, TDK, Kemp - all have had their fair share of injury issues except for Weiters. Macreadie obviously gone now but injuries contributed to that outcome. Hoping this group can get fit because the talent is so obvious and these are the types that can drive us up the ladder.

Agree with your point re being down a young key position defender who can play on the genuine key forwards. Marchbank isn’t that type - he’s more of a third tall interceptor - and by all reports so is Parks. The way I see it Levi is probably the next best option as a key defender unless we want to completely change our structure back there. Problem is Levi will be required to start forward with no Charlie. McDonald is listed as 196cms and 100kgs and played as a genuine key defender for Melbourne before May took his spot, so I highly suspect he’s been taken as insurance for an injury to Jones or Weitering. My query with McDonald isn’t his size it’s whether he can actually play at the standard we require. Happy to take him as insurance but if we need to rely on him to play a number of games it’ll likely be a problem.

Doesn't sound any different to what we've been hearing all along IMHO.
It will take time but things are looking positive.

Not the usual type of Charlie they're used to reporting on.

Quote:
A KNEE setback for Nic Newman could rule the defender out for the beginning of the season, but Tom De Koning is ahead of schedule following his back injury.

After a largely faultless pre-season in his return from a ruptured patella tendon, Carlton will take a cautious approach with Newman with the season just over three weeks away.

Four of those ten are available for round one.

I am starting to get really frustrated with the preparation of the squad. Andrew Russell was touted as the best in the business 3 years ago now we are getting more soft tissue injuries than ever. That may not be true but it certainly seems that way. FFS can someone at the club sort this out.

I can't see how Russell is implicated:

Charlie has a knee from an accidental fall outside of footy. Did it in 2019.
Marchbank, has had a serious back problem after his neck fractures caused from gutsy play in 2019.

Tom has a back problem from pushing his young body too hard...call it a fast bowlers initiation to the big time.
Newman snapped his patella tendon round 1 2020, and now there's patella issues. Peripheral player.
Bettsy is recovering from a calf sprain. He's 35yo this year. Same injury as last year.
Levi bruised his knee in a willing intra club game.

Philp no idea....he's a 20yo reserve.
Gov has soft tissue issue with hammie, which follows his history of fitness issues... and overtaken by Jack imo.

4 of them will be right for round 1.

There's 35 players competing for 22 spots in round 1.

From the footage of the match simulation the boys are not going in half hearted. There will be injuries to players in the season proper, as their will be in preseason games whilst they are playing for keeps.

If we play as we train, then there's a positive in all this on the flip side. The boys will be conditioned properly, ready and willing come round 1.

Bring on the 2020 Premiers.
