17 Players on the injury list
5, possibly 6, out for season

Counts for nothing?

Shades of 2002 when Brittain's team had 17 injured and Carlton's 1st spoon ever , and Ratten's team in 2012, had 14 out injured and missed the 8.
Both of these coaches lost their jobs.

WCE had 6 out and were reported as decimated by injury when they beat Carlton with 12 out.
Tigers have 3 best 22 and playing with 16 Premiership players and they reported as playing depleted.
Carlton had 14 missing on the weekend including the 2 KPF's and all players over 200cm except for 22yo developing ruckman and they were expected to beat a full stregth NM.

Doesn't look good for Teague, injuries or not.

Not good for anyone other than the opposition.

2012 ended like this too, basically had no fit players left.

Betts should stop going for Mark of the Year before he retires. Selfish football in more ways than one. So where's the discipline? Rotten club.

All of the above just plain old stiff shite. Not much Russell can do about those injuries

Below those are the debatable ones if you wanted to be picky.

Mitch McGovern Hamstring
Sam Philp Groin Season
Will Setterfield Groin
Zac Williams Hamstring
Michael Gibbons Hamstring Season

Don't shit me.

Whats the scoop with Philp???

I wanted us to select Robertson in the Draft, and could have, but loved getting Kemp (also selected with an ACL), and Philp. I love the way Philp goes about it, and his pace is thrilling, let alone tackling and kicking for goal.

Is his groin chronic..you know , don't you?

Amazed to look at the injury lists of the Preliminary Finalists after a season and a couple weeks of physically demanding Finals.

We were decimated with injury in the last 2 years but this year were usually missing 7-9 of our best 22, and at one stage 5 of our starting 6 forwards.

I think it was around round round 20 we had 17 out injured from a list of 42.

Injury played a big part in our dreadful season, and it must be noted.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/674805/medical-room-the-full-afl-injury-list-preliminary-finals

From Best 22 missing from Prelim teams:

Doggies
Josh Bruce season
Cody Weightman concussion
Bont will play

Port
None from best 22

Melbourne
Tomlison season

Geelong
Parfitt season
Stewart 2 weeks

Says it all doesn't it.

Lets hope Andrew Russell can add strength and muscle to the boys over summer.
I know he's careful not to allow too much muscle too early to avoid soft tissue injury and to keep speed up, but soft tissu injuries have been rife this year, so need to focus on that.

There was talk about Teague overriding Russell's recommendations and selected players with an injury cloud including Cripps (back), Williams (achilles), Saad (thigh), Martin (hamstring), Silvagni (shoulder), Docherty (shoulder), Casboult (knee)...all important players from early rounds I recall.

Maybe the players dismissed Russell's recommendations. Only the Review could tell us the truth.

Got no idea what happened to Gov, but when he pushed in a chase his hammy went...again.

Have to also face facts with some players not able to withstand the rigours of AFL football....and I'm not including Marchbank in that category because his neck injury was really serious afrom a courageous act and the ACL was just unfortunate in his first game back for 18 months.

Very good points Bondi. You lose so much with long term injuries, not just the physical toll/recovery on the player themself, but the constant breaks in team cohesion/harmony also.

We've had a horror run the last few years, especially to young players.

It’s entirely possible that Russell along with all the other “high performance” medicos out there aren’t actually messiahs and just have to deal with what happens to their lists which may just be dumb luck.

Who’s to say Russell’s time at the Hawks or Richmond’s experience until this year wasn’t just good fortune?

Id like to see an injury update

About when some of these injured will be back at training, and when will they be ready to play next year.

I also felt our long list in the ambulance tent made it hard to win games last year.

I agree.
E.g. How is TDK after his injury in the last game?

Cuners did his ACL in mid-May, so I reckon you'd have to be pretty optimistic to think he'd be ready to go round 1. You'd think Marchbank would be more likely to be ready, assuming he's still on the list, but remember who we're dealing with here.
