The real question is how we have progressed overall in 2020.
The midfield is definitely a work in progress
The players who were recruited to assist Cripps so far haven’t delivered
So that means 3 things in my mind
1 are these players still got plenty of room for improvement
2 have they reached their ceiling
3 need to be traded or played with different roles in mind

For too long Carlton have overrated its list internally waiting for the improvement to happen
You have to bat 8 to 10 deep in the midfield these days to be a top 4 team

That’s why I would like to see Teague try some more youngsters in the remaining games looking towards the next 2 years of his contract
That’s why retaining Murphy for one more year is wrong in my view
That shows a lack of foresight

Who did SOS recruit to assist Cripps?

I thought that was the promise/ plan but failed to deliver last 2-3 drafts.

Setterfield and Kennedy were the 2 SoS traded to help Cripps long term.
Short term, he tried to get Coniglio, Shiel, Gaff and Kelly but with the little luck. More to do with our progress and external factors.

I would say both have improved a lot this year. Consistency still building, but Setters is at least 3/4 good, Kennedy 3/5.

I like your thinking.

2020 is a bit of a Mickey Mouse season
17 matches
Shorter quarters
Home ground advantage almost out the window
No reserve comp
But at the end of the day with a reasonable run with injuries
Our ladder position will show where we are at compared to the other seventeen teams

My mother is coming to visit for lunch in an hour. I've spent the last 3 days cleaning.

Wish me luck folks

Don't worry.

She probably wants to pick your brain about tonights draft and get a better understanding of all the hype around Carlton's 2021 prospects.

Do we need this thread?
Hopefully it will be redundant in 2021.

Nope I have never felt more confident backing the club since the rebuild was announced. Appointing Bolton as coach was a monumental screw up that has set us back 2-3 years.

I feel the appointments of Liddle, Lloyd, Playfair and Teague are above average appointments with the right skill sets.

The problem with our club is we have come along way back further back than one would like to admit considering the sheer number of dead wood that had to be culled, so rebuilding was never going to be easy.

I am extremely confident in the direction the club is going - wish we had better luck with injuries - to make top four we need our best team on the ground every week as it builds synergy over time.

Without that synergy I think we are a 6th to 10th on the ladder type team on raw talent. So I am not nervous I am excited with the ups and downs and seeing the group bounce back from lows etc.. instilling strong team character is not going to be easy but Teague can do it.

Taking my 8 y.o.

The last time I took him to see us play Freo we didn't score a goal in a half of footy. Please don't flower up again Carlton
