Are Carlton having another crack at Ollie Wines? I think there is something going on? A few whispers!

Perfect time to buy Ollie Wines stock- doubt it would get lower than it is now

Yup Ollie needs a refresh and Princesse Park may just be the ticket.
We need at least one quality mid , a young ruckman with some potential and a small goal kicking action machine.

I thought Tomlinson was going to StK

I'd rather a crack at Angus Brayshaw. Buy low, had a dog awful season and mostly Goodwin's fault.

8 and next year's first for Wines and 27 seems the logical trade, but makes it very difficult to land Papley if that's the case.

2 first rounds picks on the table.
Ballsy.
I like.
Must be a king hit though.

Question is who is more valuable to Carlton:

25yo Wines (inside Mid)
23yo Papley (Goal Kicker)

If we are going to offer 2 first round picks, we may as well throw that at Grundy.

I'm happy to get any of the abovementioned for 2 x 1st rounders this year.

Wines over Papley and Grundy before both, easily.

I’d prefer Papley over Wines.
But I guess smarter people than me like Wines.
Surely Grundy is not gettable. If he is, he would be my no.1 target by a long way. But surely, he wouldn’t be leaving Collingwood to come to Carlton.

Out of interest, I just looked up the AFL player stats on their website and checked all clubs in the top 8 plus us, on how many payers are listed as Mids and Mid/FWD (only mid stats). What's interesting is, not only how little our listed pure mids list is, but also the lack of quality (especially mature aged) compared to the other teams.
I haven't listed the other teams players but here is the link: https://www.afl.com.au/stats/player-rat ... midfielder
Some players may be questionable, but I think it still creates a fairly good picture that we lack a lot more pure mids. The dogs ( 1 of 8 ) are the only other team like us, that has more listed mid/FWDs than mids.

These are the results:
Carlton
Mids - 6
Murphy, Cripps, Curnow, Walsh, LOB & Schumacher

Mid/FWD - 8
Dow, Fisher, SPS, Kennedy, Lang, Cuningham, Setterfield & Cottrell

Geelong
Mids - 9
Mids/FWD - 4

Brisbane
Mids - 12
Mid/FWD - 6

Richmond
Mids - 12
Mids/FWD - 4

Collingwood
Mids - 9
Mid/FWD - 4

Westcoast
Mids - 10
Mid/FWD - 1

GWS
Mids - 13
Mid/FWD - 3

Bulldogs
Mids - 7
Mid/FWD - 9

*
Mids - 12
Mid/FWD - 4

Who decides whether a player is tagged as a midfielder or a mid/fwd?

Is it based on stats (ie where they are collecting their possessions on the field or where they are named in teamsheets)? Or is it something that each club specifically tag themselves?

Who knows?
But based on both of those scenarios, we are still light compared to 7 of the top 8 teams.

I think Papley's contract extension will make it more difficult unless he wants out, which doesn't seem to be the case.

I suppose I'm just a conservative type Bondi. I really don't like the idea of trading away our early picks. Even less if that involves trading our future.

I guess there's good and bad examples of this. One in my favour is Shiel. Last year there were TCers who were prepared to trade #1 as part of a deal to get him. I think we're all pretty happy now we didn't.

Garlett, Kerr, Schumacher, Lebois and Lobbe delisted.

No real surprises, although thought Kerr might’ve had a little currency.

Kerr is unlucky because he can play. Reckon he'll get an opportunity elsewhere an do well. Has the tools, just nowhere to fit him at Carlton. Unlucky for him all our talls we drafted turned out for us. Not often that happens.

Schumacher might find somewhere too as he's shown some ability.

Our first draftees delisted since SOS came along. Both might've been more squeezed out rather than delisted for not being up to it.

Schumacher to the rookie list would be OK by me, but it doesn’t sound like we’re going down that path. I thought we might have held on to Kerr until a later list lodgement while the Casboult situation is resolved.

But overall, no big surprises there.

So that's 7 gone off the primary list and 1 rookie.

Kerr is unlucky - hope we rookie him.

With so many spots available on the senior list, seems the club is very confident of an influx of fresh talent outside the draft.
