His past record suggests he's able to stay the journey until the other side caves and he wins... the narcissist even wanted a say in the new name for %*&@ cheese.

Now that he's set his sights on us, in a decade we could be learning the lyrics to a new 'approved' version... and 40k of us looking up at the scoreboard, stumbling through the words (80's Advance Australia Fair style) as we cheer the players off the ground...

He should have launched this campaign 20yrs ago - hardly anyone would have noticed or cared given how rarely we were singing the song!

We could sing the lyrics to the tune of 'I get no kicks from champagne'...!

Go Blues

I don't normally sing the song ... but I will now.

This is beyond absurd

1. The "original" song written in 1898 used the N-word and C-word a whole once each. It's about 1000 times less than your standard rap song.
2. The song was re-written by Ted Fio Rito and Paul Francis Webster and recorded by BING CROSBY and MARY MARTIN in 1941. And the Chipmunks recorded the same version in the 60s. Surely he should also target them for using the same tune.
3. And if anything is offensive about our song it's, "We’re the team that never lets you down".

This world is off its head and getting madder every day.

I agree with 2 & 3,but on 1 you're way off, it's not just about those two words, it's about the general humiliation of black people. Look at the lyrics, picture a white guy in blackface singing it in an exaggerated accent and doing silly dances and monkey gestures and the like... There is no defending the original song, but repurposing the tune is fine with me, especially since no one would remember the original if the wokelords didn't keep mentioning it.

I get where you are going with this and I'm not defending the song, but you are assuming that in 1898 they were only taking the piss and not setting the scene as they did many times in movies, musical performances and stage productions without the intent of humiliation (obviously not all had inoffensive intent).
I'm not saying that it wasn't, but we just don't know the intent other than it was part of a musical genre at the time.
And if you remove those 2 words it's just another love song.

My point was the N word is extremely offensive, yet the rappers feel the need to not only keep the word alive but to propel a popular use of it within the wider community. Personally I can't stand hearing the word along with calling women 'b#%es and hoes', hence I don't listen to a lot of modern rap anymore. And I'm not even a woke leftist.

But to be offended by a tune from an old song that has been rewritten before it was used as a clubs theme song, just shows the level of narcism he has to try and keep himself in the spotlight.

The one thing all these 'wokeists' forget, is if everyone is always looking back to be offended by the past, they're not realising that if we 'erase' everything that's offensive now we will be doomed to make the same mistakes in the future.

I agree with that point but these situations are a reflection of who we were as people. When I was young, my grandparents watched TV shows where the white person called his neighbour a "nig nog". or a racist character like Archie Bunker rated as much as anyone.
My father talked about "darker models" when discussing coloured people. That's the world as it was.

The difference is I've been educated and my legacy will be how my children treat others. I was born into a racist society but it has evolved significantly IMHO. But that doesn't mean we should eradicate the past. We should use it as a learning tool to see how we treated others and how we have worked to improve.
And yes we have a long way to go.

That doesn't make this bloke any less of a flog.

Yeah, true. It's certainly interesting to know the origins of the song and reflect on how badly minorities were treated back then. I read that there were calls to ban "coon music" as early as 1900, which gives you an idea of just how awful it must have been!

I think “Good old Collingwood forever” should be banned for being a racist song. It celebrates everything black and white...

This has nothing to do with racism, offence, insult etc. Its all about power and Mr Hagan loves every bit of it.

But because we are in a time when victimhood trumps all, we should all be quiet as we know nothing about the offence that our club song causes and continues to cause.
