Gents it's pretty simple: if he is such a wundercoach-in-waiting, where is the evidence?

He's simply climbed the ladder the way most career assistants do. If he surprises us and pulls out a whole new bag of tricks over the next 3 months, the next question should be 'where the @#$%&! was this over the last 4 and a bit seasons?'

Question is how much flexibility/say did assistants really have under mick? You can have all the ideas in the world but if the senior coach says no, its a no.

Like all new coaches, give him the chance to impress - if he fails then so be it. But don't hang him beforehand

The average results have been following Barker since he was at Hawthorn, and he pre-dates Mick's tenure.

Barker and the match committee need to treat the rest of the season as a development year.

He can tweak the game plan as he sees fit but has to put more game time into the younger players.

If it's more of the same then he can gagf

Going by the last 5 days it's definitely not beyond the realms of possibility Mick only hired yes men, and stared down anyone that had an idea that he didn't like.

Just one [REDACTED] up petulant child

See, I don't get this.

How can anyone know?

Don't they like his media work?

He could be the greatest or worst coach of all time. Who the @#$%&! would know on this site?
I base this on two things

1) The giggles and celebrations from the Hawthorn fraternity happy to be rid of him
2) The level of dysfunction in our forward and back lines under his watch

He's welcome to prove me wrong, but I am not holding my breath...

barker as a line coach is a different proposition as barker the head coach. he now gets to leave his own footprint.

i'm looking forward to seeing it take shape. gotta be positive.

As much as I thought the Madhouse must go ... appointing Barker is nuts.

Why ?
We don't know what his own views are! Plus who cares!

yeah, it's win win hiring barker. if he fails, he was only ever caretaker, it buys us time to find the right guy who will take us forward.

and if barker is good, well as far as meeting the criteria of a young, done his apprenticeship type coach who's in tune with the modern game ... he's already there.

friday night will be a good baptism of fire for him. can't wait to watch him burn to cinders, or rise from the ashes. either, or.

Be Intersting to see if he plays Graham.....and not just as a sub. Reckon Graham will be ganging to prove Mick wrong..

Fairdinkum, there's no pleasing anyone FFS. You want Malthouse gone, he's gone. You want someone to take over, and some slag off the oppointnent. FMD. How about giving the guy a chance to prove something over the next 14 weeks?

Always quick to flick the switch, but never such a time to give when a requirement to do the deed is needed.

Will be nice to have a coach with manners and respect during post game press conferences. I forgot what it was like to not be embarrassed.

No one knows if JB can coach or not but he is a terrific guy who will be able to create positivity for the fans.

If there's one prediction he gets right, let's hope it turns out to be that one.

I hope he keeps it simple and lets the kids just play. Releasing the shackles may be just what we need, some real positive football.
