Can we change the thread title to "John Barker Can Coach (Somewhere Else Now) Thread"?

To be truthful I thought this news would make me happier.

But more than anything the feeling is annoyance that it took this long.

I just hope that he's still one of the first people Sayers' people get on the phone to.

Quote:
AFTER 14 years in the AFL industry, Carlton stoppages coach John Barker will depart the Club after 10 years at the Blues.

Barker had recently approached the Club to inform them of his intention to step aside from AFL at the end of the season and focus on expanding his corporate interests and opportunities.

The Club held continued discussions with Barker and have since mutually decided that with the upcoming mid-season break, it would be an opportune time for Barker to depart the Club this week to enable the Club to plan for the future and allow Barker to actively pursue his next steps…

Thanks for your services & all the best

Well done on coaching us to victory against Port at the G that day, was actually a great game. But in the bigger picture our midfield needs a breath of fresh air.

Now with Barker gone, please bring in Sam Mitchell (an actual midfielder) for stoppages coach with the intent he will either be senior coach next season or working under Clarkson.

as someone who has been there for 10 years ... he would have to have rocks in his head to realise this wasnt coming.

i dont think thats about being told by someone in the know ... i think its commonsense.

i think what the club is doing is a must. we shouldnt be in the position we are currently ... and the whole club needs to be looked at.

strikes me as abit like Geelong ... where Scott said he was doing too much ... seems abit like our football side and back office, we have too many doing too few, rather than the load being spread evenly ...

I'm sticking to my original theory. He has the same nude photos of a board member that kept Andy McKay at the club for so long.

OK which board member recently moved on, paving the way?????????

Normally these things tend to get ugly. But in this case the club is now less ugly.

Surely politicians do enough of that that we have to copy them

We're the only club in the comp this year to have a stoppages coach and a separate midfield coach. It shows.

Kept far too long, a mainstay across multiple failed coaches.

Nothing personal towards John, but very happy for this decision.
