During the off-season, Max Gawn together with David Neitz (I think) hatched a plan to bring the older Melbourne players back into the fold through joint training and socialising. I reckon that has played a role in their improved performance. For us, this would be seen as a bad thing just living in the past and relying on the old boys network again. But it was good for the Dees.

I remember a game against the Kangas where David King went to Braddles on a wing before the first bounce.
Braddles just starts running laps of the centre square. King obviously could not keep up and was puffed before the ball was bounced!

Refreshing for the game that last years premier and this years premier (and runner up) are led by females. Refreshing and it wont be without imopact on the culture that each team/club has created. Tigers, Demons and Bullies.

A recent interview with Peggy O’Neil highlighted her influence in building a culture of trust and development that has been a backbone of Richmonds success.

As much as i love Diesel and the passion the board to see us successful again, the place will benefit by continuing to increase the female inflluence on positions of power and leadership.

If Lyon and Watson said that, I suspect there is more to it than them just stirring up sh1t. They might be right or wrong, but they strike me as people who reflect what they're hearing. I'd suspect it might be them playing a role for Cook's team to push up his price, but I would assume we're already offering him way more than any other club would. FWIW, I would love to get Cook. But I'm certainly not hitching the wagon of our future success to him. Even if we do get him, a lot of other things need to go well. The most important factor for me next year, is the extent to which the new guard drives the culture and standards on and off the field. If that happens, everything else will benefit from it incl whoever the new coach is (and I say this b/c I'm confident that we are going to find the right coach). They promised to “self-regulate” because that’s never failed... Once upon a time the old Green Guide used to have a column on advertising called “11 Minutes” because that was the maximum allowed on FTA TV. Lucky to get 11 minutes of programming per hour these days.

Yup absolutely spot on, not only in the football world, but generally in government & its agencies across the board. If we want a more connected, cohesive & sophisticated outcomes it’s the only way to go. Unfortunately it will take much longer for the more stoic & stubborn mentalities amongst us.
