You cant win flags unless you have big marking forwards and backs

Lets hope that Mitchell and Watson develop quickly

Spot on Keogh.....

We need a hard strong big bodied spine...

Mitchell McCarthy & Watson must be groomed to play seniors next year.

We need another big bodied inside midfielder to extract the ball - I want to see Judd on the wing to protect him for the long term...

We all know our deficiencies but let's not panic about it, I'd rather think in terms of what will compliment our game in a positive sense. What we 'need' is in a constant state of flux. Zac Touhy is an example of getting in a player to the club with absolutely no preconditions as to when and where he might be squeezed into the side. I know he was an Irish experiment that cost us nothing but we need too allow ourselves the same kind of freedom more often. However, if it's easier just to roll out the clichés; lets not put all our eggs into just a few baskets.

Problem is guys, Ratten and our match committee, whether right or wrong have decided 2 KP forwards plus the mosquito fleet is the way to go. That means Kruezer/Warnock with Waite combination is the fit. Where does the KP forward fit in? You cannot carry a ruckman on the bench?

I'm a fan of Zac Touhoy – IMO he could be anything

That's what I was gently alluding to in my last post.

forget them - on what i have seen (admitedley only on ABC games), levi is the man - hits the contest hard - one grab marks, something that watson lacks. no urgency in his game from what i've seen of him.

watson will struggle to play seventy games.
can't contested mark ,can't run can't bend down and hates body contact.
I'd rather mark Austin. watto just does not have the physical attributes to play the modern game.
give me Jack daring or issac smith anyday.

and th at has nothing to do with improvement. watson can't change his body to become afl athletic.

this is my biggest concern with Watson. Just too many ??? with so many facets of his game.
Shame there were so many outstanding options still available at our first pick (especially the guy who kicked 3 last night, including a couple in the last! )

There was a contest on the HBF (camera side) late in the Bullants game that Watson should be ashamed of, and pretty much sums up what Synbad is alluding to.

I do have some reservations about Watson and agree with some of the statements on this board but we need to give this kid a break. He has yet to complete a full preseason and is still growing. As we always say it takes longer for bigger blokes to develop. I'll reserve my judgement at this stage.

:garthp:

Just like we should have picked Jetta and Proud.

Kennedy was a fridge like Watson in year one and two, but do continue your rant. Watson's fitness isn't at AFL level yet. Nowhere near the muscle tone and recovery you see in players who have done at least two full pre-seasons. I guess a big 18 year old who played TAC Cup, Under 18 champs and school footy last year isn't feeling the pinch. The workload is a huge step up from that to the AFL.

And we picked Austin to keep Gibbs in Melbourne.

Trippers.

Surely experience tells us that key-position players take time to develop. He is in his first season for God's sake, what do you expect? He was coming from a long way back fitness-wise and it takes years to build up the fitness and muscle to be competitive as a KPP. I bet if we look back to 2006 & 2007 there would be similarly damning comments about Kennedy just "not having enough good attributes" - patience!

We have Watson, McCarthy, Mitchell, Casboult who are just kids. They need time.

The issue we have is we are ready now!

I am confident in a fit Jamo and Henderson to hold down FB and CHB.

Warnock and Kruezer are our Ruckman for the next 5 plus years.

Thornton is very handy but we need that power forward.

Names for consideration are McKernan, Dawes, Tippett, M.Brown or J.White but there isnt a lot of quality around either.

I don't expect Wayne carey
just a guy who has some mobility isn't below his knees like a blind man feeling around for his contest and not someone who is actually worried about any contact.
he does his best not to have any touch on his opponents.
kennedy was much more progressed than watto.
watto to me is a bust!
he isn't modern day. .......and doesn't seem to want it. ...the fact he doesn't hve the attributes means he better work twice as hard not less hard.

tac he was a bg fish small pond.

this is not the tac
