Why Carlton Needs To Stay Away From The Alastair Clarkson Cookie Jar

https://www.statsinsider.com.au/blog/AF ... cookie-jar

The only stat you could feel uneasy about is the Hawks not winning a finals game in 6 years.
But that can be offset by the fact they haven't really rebuilt when they should've, instead opting to top up with injured guns from other clubs as well as trading out premiership guns with a few more years left for virtually nothing.
We've already done the rebuild, we've already topped up with injured guns bar a key defender to take over from Jones and another inside mid.
We need a coach who is both tactical, has a solid game plan/structure and can get the best out of our developing players and bottom 6.
All the things Teague is still yet to show he can, no matter how good he has been compared to the max 50% wining ability, "low bar" of our last 6 coaching failures.

Teague is doing better, but I personally don't this he has the goods and before we think of setting him up with more experience, we'd be mad not to look at one of the most experienced to take the helm instead. I'm sure the review will decide this for us though.

A decision on Teague really depends on these last 3 games. If we do well, I think he will stay.

If it comes down to a decision on a new coach, I think Ross Lyon would be better suited over Clarkson. Don't have a good reason except that Ross has something to prove.

In any case, I think Clarkson will take 1 year off.

I know some people think he isn’t the answer but interestingly the players even though he is going are playing for him compare our mob /rabble and coach
These are mostly players who haven’t travelled the journey with him

If we are not talking to this bloke we have rocks in our head but given the the last 20 years maybe that’s boulders

Maybe not the answer but let’s find out

The game moves incredibly quickly these days. In terms of game styles evolving. I'm not sure it's good for a coach to have a year out.

The "best" coach the last 5 years?

2019 - 9th
2020 - 15th
2021 - 17th

But can still manage back to back wins with a team that has less talent then ours, had no chance of making the top 8 and no reason to play for their coach.

Of course he would be, any half decent coach would have their tail up thinking they could whip this list into shape

Same ol story... over the hill coach looking for last pay check.

Club should just set up a superannuation fund paying out over the hill coaches.

As if this has ever worked in the past.

I'd be surprised after we gave his mate Bolts the arse.
Then again, class has never been Clarko's strong suit. Any AFL coach who goes along to kids footy and abuses umpires is a first degree flower.

I agree but we are a little short in the first degree flower category...

Obviously you're talking Carlton FC and not "Talking Carlton"?

No. No. No. No. No.

I swear I'm done with this club if it's Clarkson.

Forgot about that.
I'm guessing it's not on his CV, under Achievements.
Nor would be his brief foray into interior decorating.

FWIW, did anyone see Jordan Lewis' comments when asked if Carlton should approach Clarkson to replace Teague.
"The grass isn't always greener"
Interesting view from someone who retains extensive contacts within Hawthorn and knows Clarko very well.

Have a listen to this. Everyone make their own minds up. Love or hate the bloke ..one thing he brings up more than once is the importance of a great culture. Hmmm…that’s right we don’t have that key ingredient. A fascinating listen and boy our club could learn so much. All the wisdom, wealth of knowledge, experience, man management and on and on you can’t buy. Our club at this point in time lacks what he brings to the table in this interview with Dylan Buckley. I am looking at the big picture here. Just maybe he has something to offer. At this point in time we are on our knees. We need a man who has gone to the mountain before. 4 times! But I am sure there will and always will be people who will continue to take pot shots at him. If there is a better replacement on offer so be it.
