Couldn't think of anyone worse at Carlton except Sheedy. I think I would prefer Himmler or Hess.

From a supporters viewpoint, yes. But personally I'd hope the club would be utterly professional about such an appointment, rather than disregarding potentially the best candidate because he whacked one of our players 40 years ago.

You have to draw the line somewhere John - you'll want Clarkson as Coach next.

With Swann, Richo and Brown, we'd just need to acquire Eddie and we'd become Collingwood.

Wasn`t Walsh with us originally?

I think I would have to take a sabbatical if Blame came on board.

The thought of him being at the Blues is making me feel quite ill.

Anamosity to one side, wouldn't it be a ''side ways step'' for Balme. Unless ofcourse $$$$$ rule.

  Chubbs, I'm wondering if you were at the AGM when Keith McKenzie (IIRC) floated the idea of recruiting Mal Brown as a player. And was in danger of being tarred and feathered.

No thank goodness but I had a lot of time for Keith

If I believed it gave us our best shot at winning flags, I'd have a coaching/football admin department comprising: Balme, Clarkeson, Hird and Milburn. the only person I'd draw the line at would be Ron Evans, but for obvious reasons that's not gonna happen.

I've long ago given up caring about individuals at the club. Club and team success is everything. What Balme did half a lifetime ago was disgraceful, but every club (including ours) had some pretty black stains from that thuggish era. People change, and I reckon Balme 2.0 is a decent bloke and a good operator. Hafey coached them, and I admire him greatly as a man. Doesn't stop me hating Richmond though; but I think hating the club is a healthier way to go than hating individuals within it: it's all part of the fun really.

But unless he's not really gelling with the new coach and president, I can't see him leaving the cattery.

Yep, I'm sure he was.

Pretty sure Walsh was a recruiter for us in the early 90s.

I'm not sure if Swann has any connection with him though as Walsh went to the Pies after Swann and Balme left IIRC.

Geoff Walsh left Carlton for the CEO (?) job at North Melb. I think mid '95. When we won the flag , the boys, led by Sticks, took the Cup around to his office at Arden St. Just by way of acknowleging his efforts at Carlton......At least that's the story I heard.

Well, a pimply faced CK95 strolled into the CFC one day in late '92, requesting to speak to Mr Walsh. My Blues supporting husemate & I had seen the Carlton newspaper advert seeking expressions of interest from those able to provide lodgings for Blues interstate & country recruits.

Hey, we thought our uni share accom hovel near rathdowne fitted the bill perfectly - after all, we were both Carlton supporters, it was close to PP, he could have the spare room & we could help the lad settle in to Melbourne life. AND attain mega popularity for ourselves at the same time! WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE????

The look on Geoff's face as he calmly explained to me they were really seeking large homes & family environments where all cooking, cleaning etc could be provided was priceless

Good times

What a great yarn CK. Hilarious

I also lived in a share house in Rathdowne St during my uni days (a little earlier than you). Wish we'd had the vision of you and your mate. But even Brendon Fevola would have had trouble keeping up given how we lived at the time.

Would have ruined his career before it even started.

Like to get Geoff Walsh back and we dont need sniper like that scum Balme at our club..he finished Geoff Southby as a player with his gutless hit and he should never be considered for a role at our club ever and that goes for Milburn as well...

I did hear reports that when Colin Corkery tried out at the Blues he was a big drinker.
