Craig to Dees
Quote:
MELBOURNE has won the race to secure the services of former Adelaide coach Neil Craig.

The Dees are poised to announce Craig has signed on to a post as head of the club's football department.

He will act as a mentor to new coach Mark Neeld.

Melbourne beat several teams wooing the sacked Crows coach, headed by Carlton and Brisbane.

Dees supporters just a little bit excited over this.

Probably on par with the disappointment Richmond supporters will be feeling right about now.

He's a quality person. Not sure we had a role that was suitable for his skills.

Good luck.

Im still not convinced on Schwab though.

Melbourne is the easy opt out for anyone who wants to keep a steady income from football

Its a no pressure job that you can stay in for 3-4 years draw an income and if results come your well then well and good - if they dont well its no pressure you move on . no one not even their supporters expect success they are happy to go with the punches make the odd finals experience and remember the good old days from the 50's and early 60's

Different kettle of fish taking a job on at Carlton - we expect success -get in a job for 3-4 years and we want results - Ratts got a get out of jail free card when Fev moved on used it as an excuse to stall the progresss - Neil Craig knows this and so do others so thats why the Melbourne offer is more attractive to them than the Carlton one .

If Icke was responsible for list management questions needed to be asked about some of the decisions they have made and some of the players that were offered extensions that should have been moved on - Trade deals that could not be negotiated an with the exception of Judd the in ability to entice quality to the club

It will be interesting to see who replaces him- but Craig has taken the soft option

40 pages on Big footy about how they didn't want him anyway. Good for us winning a contest!

I'd be pretty disappointed if Icke was moved on to placate Ratts. We should be wanting the best people on the payroll. Not the ones that get along best with the senior coach.
AFAIC, we should be appointing the best people and they should be professional enough to work together creating a successful environment, dismissing any personal differences.

Good to see you back on TC Old55. Craig might be a good fit for the Dees and Neeld comes across as a strong and intelligent guy, so both good appointments. I don't think Craig was a likely appointment for Carlton but hope we get someone good.

We wouldn't want the Melbourne situation either though. A bit of a whiff about how that little ex Freo group goes about things just quietly... but it is all speculation though. If there was tension we don't even know what the triggers were, eg silly things or fundamental concepts. With the new AFL distribution there are a few clubs able to invest in their football departments a bit more as well, so the landscape has changed a bit, so it isn't beyond the realms of possibilty that he has moved on for a better offer. I guess time will tell as to what has actually happened and it will be interesting to see who we get to replace him.

What I wouldn't give to get Icke over to the kennel as our list manager and head of footy ops, and for us to kick Fantasia's arse at the door so hard it lands halfway down Barkly St

They could have landed the "Killer Diller" or "Tripped the Light Fantastic". Would have been a big tick for the Tigers. Call in now on the famous SEN open line.

I'd almost prefer him over Fantasia, that's how useless Fantasia is. If you saw the VFL GF, you would have seen two Fantasia rookie elevation specials, Mulligan and Hooper, look completely out of their depth at even that level. He gives Djerkurra a 3 year deal as he is about to be delisted by Geelong. Fantasia is as useless a footy manager as there is going around.

Marcus Ashcroft has been approached to take over Icke's role at Carlton.

If Dean Galea (Port Melbourne) somehow gets drafted to the AFL (and I seriously doubt he will) he should give Mulligan 20% of his contract - Mulligan made him look seriously good - escorted and shepherded him to every mark.
