Ratten having experienced assistants will work better now he has 70 games under his belt.
Although I'm still bemused at how the previous assistants with zero experience were appointed.

Wasn't really the club's choice though they obviously needed to approve it at board level.

Ratten decided he wanted more experience in the box. Mature decision from him IMO - catch 22 though - without more experience the greater the chance of being fired because of us performing badly, if we do perform badly, ready made senior assistant coaches waiting in the wings.

If we perform poorly, he's going to be replaced whether there is a senior assistant sitting in the box next to him or not. I don't really see it as a threat to him as some are suggesting.

Webster might turn out to be very good, but it's interesting to read about the process that resulted in him arriving at the club. A phone call to his mate at the club (Icke), a meeting with Ratten, Riley & Harris, and an hour later he has the job. Doesn't exactly sound like an exhaustive and comprehensive nation-wide search to find the best development coach in Australia...

That's not to say that he isn't a good fit for the role, it's just that I think we have a perception that AFL clubs must always go through highly sophisticated recruitment processes for every position in their football department. Maybe it's a lot less formal than that sometimes.

Anyway, good luck to Webster....

.....but what happened to WIGGINS!?

So either
a) He's such a quality bloke that the decision was a no-brainer, and there was no need for an exhaustive process
b) Ratts and co have no idea what they're doing and are just hiring blokes willy-nilly because they're all mates

Gee, I wonder which one the TC community will run with

Is there such a thing as 'community' on TC?

But seriously (as Phil Collins would say), does anyone know what WIGGINS is doing next year? I miss him already...

The best hire I've made in 5 years, I decided I had to give the guy the job 10 minutes into the interview. The worst hire I've made was the one I spent weeks agonising over.

Sometimes you just KNOW.

As an employer for Marketing roles in a Top 100 Co (or someone who measured those employing for me), I found that the best assistants weren't Marketing Grads but kids who had been exposed in the real world of sales and were willing to roll up their sleeves and make something of the opportunity. Obviously they needed some guigdance, but some just get too caught up with fluff and theory.

The post graduates were good with concepts such as animals selling product and brand on TV.
That didn't thrill or move the business community one bit.
Residential consumers (the masses)..well that's another story.

I hope our future doesn't rely on any ONE individual we employ.
I'm sure as sure that the blokes who have come on board have rolled up their sleeves in the past and come from the University of Life, not theory. Just my opinion.

Had a quick chat with both Richardson and Brown yesterday. Based on what some of the players have said these guys have had a huge influence so far.

Concentration on positioning, weighting kicks to targets, body pressure and structures the highlight. Nothing but positives.

Watch Richardson around the players and he is definitely a senior coach in waiting!

I suspect the only way we will see Richardson at Carlton in 2012 is if we're no longer seeing Ratten. Otherwise you'd reckon Richardson will walk into a senior gig somewhere else.

ST KILDA assistant coach Robert Harvey has revealed he was in regular contact with Saints' coach Ross Lyon during his time at Carlton.

Does this mean that Stkilda were paying part of Harvey's salary :?:

Sounds like he really had his heart in it whilst at Visy Park

How much would he have learned from the other zero–experience coaches?

So what happens in the short to medium term re the stoppage coach position? Are we looking to replace him in the next few weeks or wait til the end of the season. Both options not great

Going without would be a step up.
