Quite a broad resume. Sounds like he will be in more of a development role with the coaches than he will with the players. That will remain Power and O'Keefe. Perhaps with an entirely new group of coaches, it's important to have that coaching director to ensure they are gelling together and messages are coming across clearly etc. got no idea about him but let's hope at minimum he can get the umpires on our side :thanks:

No. He's the 'football director' - i.e the board member responsible specifically for football.

Are these development roles for him or us?

I.e. we are developing him as an assistant coach, or he is developing our players?

It's effectively Director of Coaching. Similar to Bolton at Collingwood.

Sounds like best practise to me

Certainly doesn't appear to wear out his welcome, anywhere.

But - who is going to oversee the coaching and innovation manager?
How many chiefs, and how many indians?

Still can't figure out why Betts didn't continue as a part time Development coach/ indigenous liaison.

He was enticed over for that role, plus to escape from the Crows culture.

A superstar with 350 games under his belt and probably the best small forward the game has seen...something not right here.

With Jesse Motlop coming on board as a small forward, Betts' tutelage would've been invaluable for him, perhaps expedited his development, let alone Durdin's, Owies' and Fisher's.

Yup agree very strange, a club champion, questo caso, universal favorite , like Eddie Betts are no let go so easily.
Could it be a consequence of the massive changes in coaching and other club structures recently?

I think peoples emotions get the better of their reasoning when they rate Betts. Carlton has had many stars over the years but Eddie would probably not feature in my top 50. No premiership player, B and F, captain. Great player and exciting to watch but never achieved the ultimate success in playing in a premiership. It’s people like Diesel who you want around the club. Not Eddie Betts.

29th highest goal kicker in league history and third highest as a small player and he doesn’t make your top 50 Carlton players?

Does it matter?

It was in the context of Betts taking a coaching role and it then being suggested people overrate him.

He's an AFL all time great.

If you were looking for someone to teach small forward craft I don't think there'd be anyone on the planet better qualified.

Don't care if he played for West Pluto.

Most rate him higher than you BlueJean. Not saying you are wrong, despite thinking contrary to you, and I think you'd be in the minority. Betts knows a bit about forward craft. He got super fit finally, but that was in his 1st year at the Crows. Good one Malthouse.
