Just had a look at last seasons results until round 8 and added up the amount of goals kicked by us:

Goal tally at end of round 8 2009: 129 goals
Goal tally at end of round 8 2010: 124 goals

We have only kicked 5 goals less without Fev in the forwardline, the doomsdayers who thought we would struggle this season after losing a 90 goal forward in Fev might be revising their outlook for the Blues.

In round 9 2009 we only kicked 8 goals against the Crows, so if we kick 14 against the Hawks this week, which is quite probable, our goal kicking tally would be higher than the same time last year, after losing a Coleman medalist.

Im just sick of the people harping on about Fev and they STILL think we would be better with him in the side now, to be honest I don't think we would be, the players are now targetting a number of teammates up forward and not just one like they have done with Fev in the past. I love how we have become more dynamic and unpredictable up forward.

Thoughts?

Not sick of people harping on about him, but sick of people saying that if we still had him in the team today, we would be premiership contenders. Was talking with a few mates after today's win and they all claimed that if we had Fev we would be 7-1 and how the club are idiots etc. etc.

I don't mind people talking about Fev, I just wish they would take off their Fev coloured glasses once in a while and actually see how much we have improved since he left thats all.

What sickens me is the number of supporters who didn't actually realise that we would be better off without him BEFORE we traded him.
I did the same thing tonight actually - checked how many goals we had scored last year as opposed to this year. Great minds.
Why oh why was Brittain sacked before he could sack Fevola in 2002!!
Bloody Jumbo!

Well he's certainly spearheading the Lions' premiership charge!

Same supporters who shout "Kick it looooooooooooonggggggggggggggg" at the footy and boo when we play tempo footy with 30 seconds left? I.e those stuck in the 80s and who dont realise that you can win flags without notable forwards, case in point Geelong (Mooney and Hawkins lol) and West Coast (Lynch), and that its much more important to have a strong midfield?

Somehow I don't think we would have got much for him back then, let alone Hendo and Lucas.
He needed to go. But it woud have been a very bleak decade without him.

We are doing very well so far and better than i expected but we would be even better with Fev in the team in my opinion.

Fev avgs aboput 3.8? gls a game, so you just have to find 3.8 gls a game extra

Santy contributes about 2.6 gls a game, then natural improvement in Betts/Yarran/Garlett etc and there you have it

You are entitled to your opinion but I don't agree with it.
With his exit several of forwards now have more opportunity to get there hands on the ball and opposition coaches find it a lot harder to predict who is going to get the ball.

He is at Brisbane now and is struggling and they will most likely miss the eight.

Its amazing what happens when 100% of the supply goes to different forwards/midfielders rather than 50% of the ball going to one man.

I think opp. coaches are pulling their hair out, they have no flower idea where the balls going.

Yes loving the style and unpedictability of our forward line but why couldn't we have played that way with Fevola in the team ? Maybe Ratts should answer that ? Other teams do it with a key forward so why couldn't we ? It certainly wasn't Fevola's fault that we went to him too often !

Tend to agree with Mad Blue, what would have been interesting to see is Fev playing in the current structure, with an emphasis on mixing up the focus of our I50 entries. But I'd say that the team (inc. Fev) just simply was not in a position to make that transition - he'd been the only guy up there worth kicking it to for too long. You only have to look at the Dogs this year to see how difficult it is to manage a balanced forward line structure with a power forward like Hall (or Fev). I was one of the doubters but we've successfully turned a potential weakness into a strength.

Having said that, he's battling something shocking up north with injuries, he can't get out of second gear and I honestly believe that it's not for want of trying - still got some time for the Fev so I hope he gets over it.

Yes and no, fail to honour Fev's lead a few times in a row and you ended up with a 100kg sulk who was no good to anyone.
