HB Armfield Bower Scotland
C Stevens Murphy Grigg
HF Simpson Cloke Ziebell
FF Waite Fevola Walker

Followers: Warnock, Gibbs, Judd
Interchange: Kreuzer, Browne, Russell, Betts
Emergency: Hampson, Houlihan, O’hAlpin, Anderson, Bannister, Hartlett, Wiggins, Austin
Out: Pick 24
In: Warnock
Ziebell (pick 6)

2009: Trade Hampson for pick 6 to Goldcoast

Its worth noticing there is VERY good depth in this side!!! Hampson, Houla, Anderson, Wiggins and Austin are good players. Players like Bentick and Fisher can rot in the 2nds...

Many best 22's in here are last year's 11th placed teams with assumptions that:

* Stevens will learn to chase
* Warnock will come, be good, and not the Freo dud who couldnt command a spot all year
* Judd won't be concussed
* Carrazzo will learn not to airball kicks and handballs!

In my view

11th
+
Murphy improvement (kicking)
+
Gibbs (God in L Plates)
+
Someone making the forward line work
-
Decline from Fevola (he cant do that again, can he?)
+
Judd's groins

=

8th.

What about Judd's groins?

Surely a 100% Judd = 8th on its own.

looks like we will pick up warnock with pick 24 and maybe a player. at a guess pick 6 will go to hurley who is a key defender. are there any forwards that might become available? or is there a forward that we will target come draft time? hurley and warnock will be great acquisitions but we are still going to lack another KEY forward.
do we go down the path of pick 6 to the saints for kosi, pick 6 again to the swans for ryan okeefe, or trade a player to adeliade for james sellar?
what are your thoughts on chasing a forward?

here's how id like to see us line up next year:

FB: bower jamison thornton
HB: scotland waite grigg
C: stevens gibbs walker
HF: houlihan fisher simpson
FF: betts fevola kreuzer
RR: warnock judd murphy
INT: carrazzo ziebell/hurley hampson hadley
EMG: cloke armfield wiggins

i have my doubts over warnock and would not be at all surprised if he was dropped for cloke but because he's 206cm i'm tipping he'll get first crack, though that should depend only on pre-season form.

i would like to see simmo given more of a role up forward, and obviously have little stints on a wing. he is a great shot at goal, a good pass but most importantly is one of those blokes that will keep the ball in there. with eddie and him hot on their heels, opposition defenders will be forced to act very quick.

carrazzo to start on the bench and be part of the midfield rotation. he cannot play out of the backline.

hampson to initially get a game ahead of cloke but that depends only on form.

gibbs to be given full games in the midfield, and no more tagging. head to head yes, but no more going into games with a defensive mindset. this bloke could be our most dangerous attacking weapon.

09 and beyond imo;
bower jamison browne
scotland waite austin
simpson gibbs stevens
walker kreuzer russell
betts fevola ?

warnock judd murphy

grigg hadley hampson armfield

emgs; joseph, cloke, hartlett, edwards and blackwell

we are in desperate need of another forward.
gigg to play a ling/cornes role, shut down player.
warnock and hampson to share the ruck duties while kreuzer rucks up forward and plays up forward.
browne and armfield to share the duties down back to shut down the small forwards.
hadley and waker to rotate through the middle with gibbs/judd and murphy.
austin is going to be a fantastic defender for us so give him experience while waite, bower and jamison take the key forwards.
russell just needs to improve his goal kicking.
i hope the blues stop at nothing to chase a forward come draft time. kosi, ash hansen, mitch clark, tim boyle, james sellar.
fisher, thornton, houlihan, carrazzo, bentick and bannister are all trade bait imo.
just imagine thornton to the hawks for a second round pick, fisher to the saints for a second round pick, bentick to the swans for a second or third round pick and carrazzo to anyone for anything.
having all the second and third round picks we could pick up a quality forward!
go blues in 09 and beyond!!!!!!!!!!!
while the o'halipins, ackland, saddington, jackson, benjamin, pfieffer and ellard are all gone imo.

Looks pretty good to me, Ando may push for JR's spot though.
Good line up that will only improve after Trades/drafts

I'm really sorry to say this, but I really can't see Cloke in our first 22 in 2009. He will play games due to some kids poor form from an interupted preseason or still ramping up, or injury.

I love the kid, but unless he shed some kg's and improves his pace (and he may if he loses weights and trains to improve) I just can't see it. The game today is very very fast.

Otherwise it's a good team...but I expect a few changes...lets see what happens during the trade period...I think we may just snag Warnock for starters, maybe a few trades (for probably a second player and a couple of picks).

Can't see how Benjamin just misses out, having spent time in the Bullants 2nds, while Setanta, Browne and Armfield are nowhere to be seen. Pick 6 may well be in there, and probably Warnock for Cloke. BTW it's Mark Austin, not Matt.

Based on what I think will happen (or hope) will happen in trade week and ND.

Ratts lineup.
Loose man in defence & an extra mid with a four man forward line.

Backline:
Browne Bower Jamison
Walker
Anderson Austin Grigg

Mids:
Warnock Judd Carrazzo
Simpson Gibbs Murphy Waite

Forwards:
OKeefe Kruezer
Betts Fevola

Int: Hadley H.Hartlett Bannister Houlihan
Emerg: Armfield Scotland Ballantyne

I've just read it, and haven't had the time to fully digest it, bit is sure as hell is innovative.

3 Big guys forwar and one crumber. Better on a dry day or at the Dome.

Why not? Always have been a fan of 3 mobile towers in the forwardline.

I've been hanging out to do this, and was going to wait till after the draft (and I will), and again after the preseason (and I will again with pleasure), but I couldn't resist with my dream coming true 2 years in a row in the trade period.

.................................................................(Emergencies)...................

B: Armfield Jamison Setanta .....................( Hurley, Browne)
HB: Thornton Bower Grigg..........................(Austin, Anderson)
C: Waite Gibbs Walker...............................(Russell, Bannister)
FOLL Warnock Judd Hadley..........................(Jacobs, Bentick)
HF: Murphy Kreuzer Simpson.....................(Fisher, Hartlett, Pfieffer)
F: Houlihan Fevola Betts............................(Edwards, Cloke, Wiggins)

IC: Hampson Stevens Scotland Carrazzo......(pick 40)

In addition we have some handy rookies in
...............................................................( Joseph, Ellard and Hill), and
...............................................................(an additional 4 (max) coming on board).

Don't forget we have been developing our NSW rookie teenagers who may come on:

...............................................................(Pianta 194cm, Bray 190cm and Fenarolli 187cm).

Depth will be more apparent in 2009 after this next preseason when Cordy gets into the relatively new kids who have been with us for a season or 2.

Finals in 2009?

Yeah I reckon that's the easy part. In fact got my money on that equation.

Flag in 2009?

Probably not, but anything can happen. As long as we get off to a flying start with all players fully fit and chomping at the bit. Good news is that most operations (bar Setanta) have been executed, enabling our players to get a full preseason into their bodies this year.

Geez it feels good to have a ruck division to feed the great midfield we have put together.

I don't know why but after today, I keep hearing these words in my head when thinking about the Blues.....

The most powerful forces of good, ever assembled. :-D
