The substituted player needs to be ineligible for at least a week... checks & balances.

Isnt this a rehash of the red vest system, where no one was actually injured they just took off a player and said he was hurt.

I like the idea of "enduring"

I wonder what the conditions are for the injury sub to be utilized?

What a joke of a rule. Must the (injured) player who comes off miss the next week? Or simply do (and pass) a concussion test?

Why isn't the rule, if you sub a player off they automatically miss next week.

Less chance for meddling then.

This makes sense...has to be a cost to avoid this rule to be rorted again.

It will be the 'as long as it doesn't advantage Carlton' rule.

has he been listed as injured and will miss, or is that the reason he missed last night's training.

If so....I feel for Donstuie, but still reckon we can win this.

A bit of much-needed good news for Jack Silvagni. Has avoided serious damage to his shoulder and won't need surgery. Will miss Thursday night, but could return for Carlton's round three clash against Fremantle. @AFLcomau

JACK Martin will be available for selection this Thursday night, while it’s positive news on the injury front for Jack Silvagni.

Martin missed last week’s season opener due to a calf niggle, while Silvagni came from the ground at half time following an injury to his shoulder.

Director of High Performance Andrew Russell confirmed Martin trained fully and was available for the Round 2 encounter against Collingwood, with Zac Williams also to return after being suspended for Round 1.

He also said the outlook on Silvagni was better than first anticipated.

“He settled down better than we thought he would at the time, which is great,” Russell said.

“He was pretty sort at the time, he definitely couldn’t continue playing.

“We think that he’ll probably miss a week.”

Russell also provided updates on Caleb Marchbank (reconditioning), Mitch McGovern (back tightness) and Sam Philp (hip).

The trio, who are yet to feature in any matches this year, are likely to all be available from next weekend — whether that will be at AFL or VFL level is yet to be determined.

“We’re really happy with Mitch and his last four or five days. He won’t be available for AFL selection this week but he’ll be available next week,” he said.

“Marchbank has had another great week on the training track and a full session today. He’s getting really close to playing.

“‘Philpy’ has had another good week. The VFL doesn’t have a game this week: if they did, he would play."

Fantastic news for Carlton. Bad news for Gov. Gov will be playing praccy game next week when Jack gets back from injury.

Plus Marchbank is back, along with the other first round pick in Philp who has pace to burn.

With those 3 back from injury we have plenty of pressure on spots in the AFL team.

Hopefully we will be down to three players on injury list in four weeks.
