Good point. It is my biggest annoyance with football- tackling or lack thereof. Players corral opponents- wait for them to make their handpass - and then attack the player with the ball who is in a more attacking position, but if you make the decision to attack the first player you prevent their chain of possessions.

Hopper dodging past 3 players to score a goal - disgraceful. Attack his hips. Forget the smother. If you attack the hips even if he kicks it it will go sideways.

Tackling would be my number 1 issue for 2022.

Next issue is what position will get the most out of the fringe players.

In 3rd quarter, GWS player treated Dow with contempt when he ran away from him out of centre squre. Now Dow might be a better option on the half-forward flank. He's playing with the big boys in the midfield and at this stage he just doesn't have it.

That draft that Dow came from wasn't great to be honest. I just reviewed it and there aren't many guns in it. So perhaps we have to be more accommodating with him. Find a position that can get his strengths going, and just realise he was a top 5 recruit in a draft year that wasn't fantastic. Some players just need to find their best position. Who would have thought Silvagni would shine in the ruck? He could even be a good ruck-rover option next year. Seems more focused than some others.

Umm luke Davis uniake , brayshaw , Cerra , Liam Ryan , tim kelly just to name a few out that draft

yeah, but aside from that, what have the romans ever done for us?

Terrible recruiting has cost us
In a heap of trouble
Must realize where we are at
I warned everyone after the trade period last year
Start a proper rebuild
Our midfield is simply not good enough
So much up in the air with the coaching situation
Please don’t get Ross Lyon

Stuff Cerra

Get Hopper ... should have gone hard at him years ago.

Pros

Walsh just keeps going.
Newman's best game this season.
Cripps in the first half.
Best game by TDK. He gets better with each game.
Liam Stocker coming of age. Hard and tough. Can kick. I love this kid.
Charlie Curnow unscathed.
Ed Curnow's tag on Whitfield plus 4 goals. Heart and soul.
Saad busted a gut. Last qtr mistake forgivable albeit annoying.
Weitering AA KPD
Kemp is going to be a player. Well done. Finding he belongs in AFL.
Kennedy has a crack.
Kids Durdin & Honey had a crack and another game.
Fogarty's best game since first 2 rounds
OBrien's run on the wing.
Goals for Eddie and Levi in their final games.
Teague acknowledging injuries for first time
Teague calling out Tom Browne's for his pot shots and lies.
Teague's heart felt love of players, team and club.
We can look forward to some big changes in personnel post season

Cons

No more Carlton games in 2022
End of the Eddie era, and with that, the highlights and positive media he brings for the club.
Not seeing Levi and Eddie run through banner and be greeted at the end by their kids.
Teague's post game interview saddened me.
Tackling was putrid
Plowman is a ball watcher.
Williamson is a VFA player.
McGovern was disappointing. Doesn't get involved enough for an in between player.
OBrien is not an AFL player. Does he ever tackle?
Tackling is putrid. Apart from saints game, we haven't improved tackling.
WTF is this corralling business.
Teague's Gift: 5 goals straight.
Hopper vs Fisher at the centre bounce: suicide. Fisher tries but lightweight for midfield role.
Cripps & TDK injuries. Injuries have cursed Teague and Carlton this year.
Another Finals series without Carlton.

I'm glad yesterday's game was our last one for 2021 rather than the Port game :banghead: .
Go Blues!, we have the whole Summer to get excited about 2022. :smoking:

Cons?

Teague in his press conference saying Jesse Hogan was the difference and Brodie Kemp will learn from the experience.
Nah, we didn't lose because a kid in his second game had 3 goals kicked on him.
Our inability to win enough ball, be effective with the ball and defend when the opposition had the ball was the problem. That's not on Brodie Kemp. Give the kid something positive to go into the future with. Not a public whack in the final game of the year.

Pros
- We played decent footy for 3 quarters against a team in good form over the past month
- Ed, Walsh and Weitering good
- Stocker, Newman, LOB solid
- Kemp showed some positive signs
- Eddie and Levi kicking a few in their final game
- Season finally over
Cons
- Very ordinary 3rd quarter
- Another 5 goal run
- Midfield beaten convincingly after half time
- Cripps playing while hampered
- TDK concussion
- Still too many non contributors out there

I was referencing and comparing different draft years. I wasn't saying that there were NO good players for a draft.
2015 was superior, 2018 maybe...
some years produce good years, some not so good.

2015 had Weitering, Mills, Oliver, Francis, Hopper, McKay, Kennedy, Rioli etc.
In my opinion, sorry for having an opinion, the 2015 year was a better crop than the year Dow came from.

Instead of expecting the world of the guy, realise he is a fringe player. He doesn't have the tools to play midfield. Do an apprenticeship somewhere else. Brett Ratten didn't start in the midfield. Unless players are freak players from the beginning (eg Sam Walsh) they need time to develop.

Maybe I haven't watched enough football this year to comment, but they were my impressions on the match last night.

Good try boys . GWS too good . And too big . Shit they looked a big side and very strong . Even before Cripps went off they had got the upper hand around the stoppages . Seemed to brush us aside with ease . Hopper ( why didn't we listen to you Cazz ) is a ripper and if uncontracted as they say at least inquire . Coniglio blitzed when he came on and is another i would inquire about . Coniglio and GWS.......something don't sit right there for mine . Odd setup seems uncomfortable . Dunno what , but odd .

We have a good backline and a good forward line . Midfield ? yeah , we gotta bolster big time , but that aint new .

Anyhow........thanks Eddie and Levi . Both have been great servants of the Club .........Also thanks to Dave T . Gave it his best shot no denying that ..............cant blame Sayers . He is running the show now and is entitled to put his own team in and do it his way .

While tackling (or lack of) has for long been an issue, I thought generally it was more of a four quarter effort last night.

That the team seems to pick and choose when they play with sustained effort and pressure says a lot.

How many times have I seen Betts sprint past his corralling teammates to pressure the ball carrier?

This is just wrong. We played GWS with many of key players out and who had to win and who had close to a full strength team yesterday. Our kids, such as O’Brien, Kennedy, Fisher, Stocker, TDK, Charlie (3 games this year), Kemp, Honey, etc. stood up and played bloody. Add Cripps (fit), McKay, Williams, Martin, Jones, Docherty, SPS, Dow, Setters, Cuningham, etc. and we win.

We have the bloody list and midfield depth, we just either refuse to play them or play them incorrectly.
I hope Lyon comes in and sets this place up and shows you all how much talented depth we have and how much our coaches have let us down.

Let’s hope the current admin don’t flower it up by losing anyone over this period and give Lyon time to at least review the list.
