We did have a bit of luck but I actually rate Melbourne higher than Brisbane.

I'd say a lot of luck, still pretty stoked though.
I reckon Brisbane in Brisbane is going to be a tougher one though.
But if we can pull it off then I reckon we've got this all the way.

I thought Gov started a bit ordinary like he had been against Sydney, but had a very good 2nd half that put him ahead of Kemp in the pecking order.

True true, Boyd still has big boots to fill though.
Especially Kemps intercept marking.

Jack Payne has played 23 games for the Lions this year but misses this one. Gosh you'd prefer that not to be the case when you're up against Curnow McKay & Martin

14k Carlton supporters in the stands on their home deck, they're not used to that either

It's going to be a bit of a weird night for Brisbane...

Seriously, why drop Kemp??

4th for Contested Marks behind Curnow, Weitering, McKay

3rd for 1%-ers

5th for rebound 50s last 6 games played.

11th for total disposals last 6 games played.

3rd for season for time on ground

And Owies our 2nd most effective goal scorer for the year!

wtf

3 tall defenders is what we went with for most of the season before Marchbank came in, I'm pretty sure

It's definitely a horses for courses selection. Cameron, Bailey, McCarthy, Rayner, Zorko, Ah Chee... that's why one of the talls go out. Back the MC. They've got it right for 3 months. Have faith.

Owies has had a good year, but he hasn't been good in the finals. Some of his field kicking has been rubbish and costly. Martin and Motlop clearly ahead of him

I watched the replay over the last few days and I noticed Kemp pushed up too hard on a number of occasions and left his man which resulted in goals.

I was wondering if this was bad judgment on his behalf or this was just how our defence has been asked to play. I guess I have my answer, he’s out of form.

Overall it’s good to have four sets of fresh legs into the team after some pretty draining matches. Gabba is a big ground and there will be a lot of running required by hollands, Martin and Harry.

I expect Kennedy will be sub as we need his big body ready to smash through in a tough last quarter.

Tough calls, but this match up is all about nullifying their smalls & taking away their width on the rebound.

Not too sure how Docherty at half forward works for us. Could just be a starting point to defend the extra width at the Gabba… could also be just a name on a page.

Yep agree with all of that.

Acres Walsh Hollands Cottrell. I don't know enough about the Lions....do they even have that sort of running power?

Is this the first time Cunners has been dropped rather than out with injury?

I like the named side. It is daring to make four changes at this time but it's definitely horses for courses in my book.

I'll back Marchy to stick his marks this time. I think he actually reads the play pretty well and, as someone pointed out, he and Hipwood would make an interesting match. Gov can keep a token eye on Daniher while Weiters roller skates between their two talls marking, intercepting, chopping, dicing and slicing everything in sight. I think both Charlies will kick a bag but we'll win by restricting everyone else on their side.

Kennedy for sub for me, for his combo of cool head, hardness and reasonable foot (and goal) skills. We should already have enough runners, talls, one-dimensional onballers, silky-skilled goalkickers. No, I haven't looked at the match-ups. Not going to start. I trust they've got this right.

Go Blues.

I'm curious though. Can anyone suggest the best match-up for Rayner? I think he's a bit of wild card who's just discovering his potential.

Hopefully Kennedy is sub, I think people forget how good he can be.

100%

Can't recall which game but he was the sub earlier in the year & he was brilliant.

It was the Brisbane game.

I wouldn’t have thought it was a weakness.

Jarrod Berry is one of the best runners in the comp, but it’s more about their speed than gut running. It’s unreal how they can open up sides on the spread. We can’t go man-to-man with them. They’ll turn our blokes around & whooshka, the ball goes inside for another scoring opportunity.

Structure, discipline to hold it, and closing the gaps to force them to go longer or wider than they want by foot. Force the contest.

Yes that's fair. Just watched footy classified & they highlighted their ball movement. It's pretty imposing. Martin & Fogarty will be really important holding it in, really need Fog to play like he did against Sydney, was excellent.

If we're within a couple of goals at half time we're a massive chance to win this
