Indeed, all those losses were awful.
For me '88 and '94 were the most galling of all for obvious reasons - GFs missed.

The latter one a symptom of a dumb-arse finals system when we shouldn't even have played the flogs.
Should have been us v North, a home Preli and see ya later!

But don't forget folks, what hasn't been mentioned in this thread is the greatest come-uppance of all...

The modern Carlton Football Club began when WE stole their best player, Captain and 6 time Premiership player and made him OUR COACH!

Ronald Dale Barassi.

and Our glorious Carlton supremacy era began.

Deep down inside they are still bleeding about it - believe it.

They didn't win another flag after Barassi left for 56 years!

so @#$%&! 'em.

We win.

P.S.
they Cannot be ranked in 'most hated' status with the Filth and the Scum.
They simply don't rate.

What part of Melbourne do they actually represent anyway? Like, what are they

I love beating the filth & the scum. Most of my closest friends & family are filth or scum supporters.

Only cauliflower barrack for Melbourne. Pathetic, irrelevant cauliflower.

I hate Melbourne more than I like beating them.

Yeah.

IMHO, 3rd place has to go to Richmond.

Worst incident I ever had at a game was getting king-hit from behind by a Richmond thug while I was sitting in my seat at Princes Park in front of the John Elliot stand.
My witticisms had kept the faithful amused but not this prick.
Little old lady behind me started laying into him with her umbrella: "you leave him alone!"
Security hauls his arse out.
2nd generation retard from the ones we grew up against.

@#$%&! Richmond

@#$%&! their retard supporters.

Definitely 3rd ranking on the Carlton hate list.
Daylight to everyone else.

I never forgave Cameron Bruce or Brad Green so my teeth were especially gritted when they both ended up becoming assistant coaches.

That's my order too.

Balme in the 73 GF made me cry.

I refused to go to my best man's party a month ago in Melb, because Balmy is his mate and he was going to be there. I told my mate its best I don't come because I wouldn't hold my tongue.

Another Richmond thug.

It's cute how the Dees are trumpeting on their socials that they've sold out the MCG two weeks running.

No, you didn't. Your opponents did.

that’s élites for you! taking credit for the labour and ingenuity of others every day of the week haha.

my MCC member Dees following mate is as nervous this week as he was last week. if we start well and get some clean air i recon we can win this one handsomely. we need out small forwards to gel and mids to kick quite a few goals of course. but why, not, our mids bat pretty deep.

Mil Hanna kicks 8 goals & we still lose by 40 points

FMD. that wouldn’t ever happen today. even Larkey can’t do that and lose by 40 surely?

Reasons for revenge, part #2:

1988 PF - we played crap in the first quarter, but we were the better team after that. The wind seemed to change direction in their favour after every break and they definitely got the rub of the green with the umpires. Ricky Jackson and Jamie Duursma…seriously? At least they were exposed as pretenders the following week.

1994 & 2000 QFs - on both occasions, we were the better team during the season but they were the better team on the day. Bradley didn’t play in either game. The 2000 one particularly hurt as we were a seriously good side but had injuries to key players late in the year, plus we had our chances to put them away before 3/4 time.

1998 - 2 point loss at home.

2001 - 6 point loss at home (we were top 4 at the time, they were bottom 4).

2003 - heartbreaking loss at home in the ‘Vale Vin Waite’ game.

2004 - 105 point loss.

2005 - humiliated in our last game at Princes Park.

2018 - 109 point loss.

2022 - round 22.

in the old days that would be a motivational speech by an ex-player. not part of “the system” today :-)

still works for fans though, haha.

a Dees support and close friend wrecked my one and only chance to mark the ball from row D in a home and away game once.

Franchina was taking a kick at goal from not far out but on a 45 or more angle. i just had this feeling i was lined up for a grab. then Dees friends asks me to hold her café au lait with one hand est un croissant with the other and sure enough the ball sails six inches over my head with me screaming her name in frustration!

her partner is blues to the hilt, his dad was best mates with Pratt and lucky basted got to meet the entire GF team the day before GF in 95 at a low key players function at Ra Heam or whatever it was called (Pratts former mansion in Kew). they live in sydney wouldn’t wanna be watching the game in their house!

but still hate Ess** for that first qtr 93 blitz (just read an article that it was all Neale Daniher’s smart work https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/essen ... 9f70de6b80) and supporters are the worst umpire blaming losers in the land.

and pies just because their supporters are the worst property destroying finals winners *and* losers in the land. CBD after a pies GF loss is like a Syrian war zone!

Yep.
We swore off footy after that game.
Kicking Southby in the head - what a cauliflower.

So glad the prick spent time coaching Melbourne for absolutely no return - deserved even less.

I hate Essendon* with a passion, then not far behind is Hawthorn. God, I hate their supporters. Nasty, arrogant, whiny shit heads when they are on top. Even nastier and whinier when they are losing.

They usually start with:

“I was walking past the bathroom and the door was ajar”
