Thank goodness that is over. Take the 4 points and try not to think about this game again.
Hope the boys realise, if we play like this, the next 2 games won’t be fun.

Take the win. Move to 2-2. Percentage above 100. Had to just win and did it. Wasn’t pretty but we just needed the 4 points and got them.
Ed very good. Conditions were perfect for him
Samo best game in a while
Doc and Weiters very good
Eddie and Murph strong contributions
Dow and Setterfield a worry. Dow can’t find the ball. Setterfield 0 tackles playing around the ball just not good enough.
Newnes and Cotts solid on the wings
Hope JSOS’s injury isn’t too bad
On to Port next week

Eddie looks in really good touch and is a bees dick away from exploding.

Mentioned on Fox (Saturday Stretch) that Marchbank "may have done" an ACL in the VFL practice match today.
Let's hope not.

As for tonight's game ..... Let's move on.

Some of you really need to chill.
Can’t always win pretty.
I’ll take an ugly win over an exciting loss.
Winning consistently develops culture of success and belief in ourselves
Playing nice footy but losing doesn’t.
I don’t care how we win as long as we do.
‘Old Carlton’ would’ve lost that. All the signs were there. But we didn’t, and closed the game out well.
Come on now. 50K to the G next week to give the boys a true home ground advantage against Port

Bingo, when was the last time we had an ugly win? Probably when we had a half decent side. As from 2014 till now, any win has been considered great.

I was worried we’d lose all game, but we didn’t, Gold Coast will beat decent sides this year, lucky we weren’t one of them.

Pros:

Gutsed out the win. Kept responding when Suns got close.
Weiters and Jones, although their kicking was poor. In fact, whole defensive unit was good.
Love the pressure Cottrell and Fogarty add. Fast becoming favourites of mine.
Harry's 2nd half.

Cons:

Set shots.
Umpiring.
Setters has struggled this year back out on the wing. Might have played himself out of the side.

Everyone needs to appreciate how @#$%&! hot and humid it was there tonight. They ground out a win in really difficult conditions. It was an almost night. Another night and we win the by 5+

Add one of the most one sided umpiring displays particularly in the first half keeping the suns in it.

I thought Murphy played his best game for the year by a long way. Credit where it's due. I've been as critical as anyone about handing him games, but he was good tonight.

Also thought SPS was good tonight. Nice to see a couple of heavily scrutinised and criticised players do the job. Not so much for Dow and Setters who both continue to struggle.

Finally got on the right side of score reviews. Proved to be very important.

Yeah take the 4 points and move on but I think they deserve a bit more credit than they've been given.

Also massive props to the Carlton fans. Crowd was 11500... I'm calling at least 7000 were Blues fans. Having seen the GCS set up first hand, the AFL is dreaming if they think this money pit is ever going to flourish. It's a joke.

Murph had a good game. 17 possessions and 2 goals from half forward. Weitering, Jones, Docherty, Walsh & SPS all very good. Ed BOG.
Then Dow - 8 possessions from midfield - only one kick for the match with 67% time on ground. Runs around like a headless chook. Kennedy got 4 kicks in the last quarter with only 16 % time on ground for the match. Setterfield got nearly twice as many possessions (15) and five in the last quarter when the game was there to be won. When is the Dow nightmare going to end

Dow needs more development. I am not sure whether he will come good or not - we all hope for the best for him but needs to dominate a few games in VFL before being bought back.

LOB is improving his game from all reports in VFL and all players should be in the same boat. Perform or improve your game in VFL that's why it's there for.

Not for me. Running over to take the kick after JSOS did the hard work and won the free kick? That's Jack goal, not Harry's.
He needs to work much harder when the ball hits the ground. His standard is to stop to a walk. He should look at Silvagni's work rate as the standard expected. Not the Fev like efforts we're getting.

We played ugly and we won ... we dropped games last year that we were expected to win

Hawks and crows when the season was on the line !!

Next week is a moment for the club , can we win 3 in a row and cement ourselves in the 8

Generally over the last 20 years , the answer is no !!

Let’s see what we are made of last year

Oh and for the record , is a coaching direction that sps isn’t allowed to kick the ball more than 15 metres chip kicks ???

Because when he decides to run and carry and kick the ball longer , wow he looks a more assured player

Interested to hear your views about what is it about the GCS setup that will limit its flourish?
I acknowledge the backdrop that Gold Coast has never has a successful or sustainable sporting team. Intrigued why.
Is it any different to the GWS gamble?

Their mid field smashed us
Ed was our only winner
Our defence won us the game
That’s not going to get it done
It’s the same as last year
Cripps Walsh Curnow the rest
Gibbons is our next best and is finally getting a crack in there
Cottrell showed some intensity on a wing last night
Should of played round one but guys like Setterfield and Dow O’Brien are picked because of their reputation

For years some blokes internally are overrated largely due to where they were picked in the draft
Cuningham Dow O’Brien Setterfield have been given opportunities over others and have failed. They have been giving decent long term contracts as well where a guy like Gibbons or Cottrell who to me are better players have to fight every step of the way

Teague has to play SPS in the midfield.
He was good last night but played the easy role in defence

Play Philp( another with a long term deal) Stocker Honey Ramsay see what they have got
Play Cottrell in the middle Honey on a wing

Williams back will help
Martin has been tried in the midfield but has failed so far. Give him a go there although don’t hold your breath
Kennedy is average. He has been tried there and not come up with the goods either
It’s easy to look good when you come on when everyone is rooted

The bottom line is if you have 4 consistently good mids your going nowhere.
