Just reported on SEN...

Tomorrow's Age has Stevens about to undergo neck surgery, out for the rest of the year.

Will be able to start running in 7-8 weeks.

Expected to play 2008.

This looks bad, let's hope it's not.

Also bad for Murph. With Nick out Murph will have the number 1 tagger.

that mightn't be such a bad thing. i just look at it as a valuable experience for murph that will hold him in better stead for when we are going for a premiership. for me, it doesn't really matter how he plays this year it's more how much he learns this year.

The fact that it's not career ending is the good news.

The report is that Nick recieved conflicting medical advice.

That may be surgery v no surgery or

miss few weeks v miss season.

I doubt its end of career stuff cos the Blues wouldnt have scheduled the press conference till they had that confirmed. End of season is my bet with surgery

An incident in Rd 18 last year. Who did we play then?

I know it is all tongue in cheek stuff but it is a little distateful to be talking about a player's worth and contract value, when there is a genuine question mark about the individual's wellbeing. It's a terrible shame for Nick and the club because he was primed for a great season. If the reports in today's Age are correct, the main thing for Nick is that he is expected to make a full recovery.

Age report says he will have surgery and miss the rest of the year, but will be firing on all cylinders again next year: 8)

HUN report is really just a rehash of todays news, but it has a photo with Andrew Johns which looks like a mockup to me. :?

Either way, good luck Stevo. I'm sure you will make the right decision for your future!

I don't think any of us wish Nick anything but the best recovery possible Frank.

Hope he can recover from this and come back bigger and stronger.

Now, who will replace him? Grigg is injured, Jackson / Blackwell? Joey Anderson to come in and release Walker in midfield? Kouta is still awhile away, so perfect opportunity to blood in one of these kids.

By the way, I can no longer find the list of players on our seniors and rookie list. Did they take the link away? anyone in the know, please advise.

Understood BH, I am just so disappointed for Nick.

As for the photo of Johns and Stevens, it is not a mock up. It was taken when the blues did their community camp in Newcastle a few years ago.

No.

Tongue in check or not... pretty poor form to start talking trades, contracts and salary a few hours after one of your best players gets diagnosed with a serious (potential paralysing) injury.

Who would want to play for supporters that have that kind of disrespect for them.

Imagine if you hurt your kneck and couldn't go to work for some time and that same day your boss starts talking about reducing your salary or whether they should fire you. I reckon you'd want a new boss.

bulging disc- surgery on Monday, training in 6 weeks, may be back by round 16 if everything goes very very well.

These injuries heal well, but they will not take any risks at all because it is the neck.

It is not career threatening if managed well. Don't worry we will see him before the end of the year.

or we could try to win 9-10 more games and have him back for the finals.

a winning culture, a strong finacial position, increased supporter base and membership and a happier year. 4 games! sheeesh

unless we happen to lose 18 games by less than a goal (while trying our hearts out) I don't want less than 7-8 wins. Another year on the bottom is not acceptable. Can we please avoid the inevitable calls for tanking.

chleodina that would be wonderful news if correct. I hope you have the inside word and if you do, thank you for sharing it with us.

Of course I want to join in the best wishes for Stevo,

he seems to have given his all this season, and it is a tragedy ofr us and him that he may not play again this year. I hope that he makes a full recovery so that he can get back onto the field again at some stage.

Kudos to the club too. Seems we have come a fair way since the Adrian Whitehead saga - and it is great to see them putting such a premium on Nick's health.

Now it is up to Jacko or Blackers to make a permanent spot their own. Good luck lads!

I know the article has been posted, but if the Hun had any credibility, headlines like that would shred it. "Potentially career ending" is the subbies headline. Read the story and the only reference to career ending is a paragraph on caracella.

What a rag

I think you'll find we were talking trades, contracts and salary long before Nick's injury was diagnosed. You're right though, this isn't about his contract, it's about Nick making a full recovery and we all hope he does just that.

I'd suggest that in the realms of poor form in football circles this week, it's fairy floss.

The difference between tragedy and comedy is time. The time factor people can decide for themselves.
