There’s an Aiden Fyfe got canned from GC.

29 and 36 or into the draft.

For once make a statement.

The Bulldogs held fast with Dunkley and now he is playing in a GF. The Swans held fast with Papley and he made the AA team. We need a spine and must ask for pick 10 from the Eagles. We hold the cards. If he wants to go into the PSD then we have a pick before both Perth teams.

SPS struggled under Teague. Walsh thrived. If SPS was good enough then he should be able to play anywhere. Being played out of position is such a weak excuse. Silvagni played some games in the ruck. How did he do?

SPS has talent. Someone will get it out of him.

I agree about going for pick 10 but Papley was still contracted, so it's a different scenario. I'm not sure if Dunkley was out or in contract.

My understanding is dunkley was under contract, is set to expire this year.

Yes they were as was Gibbs when Adelaide first tried it
Still doesn’t mean we shouldn’t play hard ball
The new Carlton under Sayers should be tough on and off the field

We may not have the whip hand but it doesn’t mean we have no hand

I forgot we had picks before both Perth teams.

If they have committed to SPS and low ball us, they will both be red faced if we hold onto him ... unless he chooses to go to PSD and one of the Melb clubs nab him for free ... Nth, Pies, Hawks.

I feel better now. Lets hope Austin doesn't capitulate.

This. The New Carlton!

We have the whip hand in the PSD.

If that article which suggests WC are looking at lowballing us is even remotely accurate, we have to go full Dodo on them.
If they then don't become fair dinkum in negotiations, PSD it is.
It's not like the Jack Martin scenario where they can heavily front load the contract to scare others off. They have zero cap space to do that. Also pick 10 in PSD is very different to pick 3.
If it goes down the PSD route, we have to redraft him. If another club drafts him before, then so be it.
I still doubt it will come to that and a reasonable trade will happen. 98% of the time that is what happens, but we need to be prepared and not weakly succumb to whatever crap WC offer us.

Dunkley would be a very good target for us to pursue.

It will be a second rounder somewhere. and we should and will accept that and move on. What number he was drafted at 4 years ago is irrelevant. He isn't in our best 22.

For anyone wanting pick 10, ask yourself this

Is there one player not in the best 22 of a team that finished outside the 8 that you would swap a top ten pick for (excl first year draftees)?

We all know the answer is no. Get mid-20s pick value and move on.

IIRC Chris Yarran was in a similar position in his last year with us and we ended up getting an end of first round draft pick from him

Yup a mid to late pick in the 20s will be the best we can hope for, unfortunately SPS just hasn’t delivered on his potential , it’s a loss but let’s move on, we may unearth gem with his pick.

I don't think anyone is asking for pick 10 as a straight swap but to be part of the deal.
Also I disagree re SPS not being in our best 22. When selected and played in his rightful position, he is absolutely in our best 22.
Furthermore, should he get to West Coast, he will absolutely be in their starting 18 come round 1 and by round 22 he'll still be in their starting 18.

Once again, the rules clearly state that WCE cannot trade their first round draft pick unless they obtain another one.

This is the AFL. Rules can be bent very easily.
Pretty sure Geelong were told one year that they couldn't trade their first rounder. They asked AFL for an exemption and got one.
It can happen.

100% rhino27. Pick 10 to us and we give them a 2nd rnd and SPS maybe ?

They committed him so they pay up. SPS is a good player and if we are only getting a second round rnd I dont think its worth it and hope Voss feels the same.

I don't think Voss will put his neck out - he's just arrived and there is a new ceo with a big reputation, and a footy manager and list manager who are under the pump... Im guessing he will sa publicly he's disappointed, but he'll let them do their work and get the best pick they can
