Be careful what you wish for.

do you have some other target in mind?

Finding one is hard enough.

Gov and Kemp are not KPF's they are tall mobile marking forwards.
They play KPF because the alternatives are Lewis Young or Derksen; depth players.

They should be in competition for the other 4 spots in the forward line imo, but
Gov, the same height as Ison, may be retired. Kemp may be traded. Moir is the developing marking tall.
Hayward is the other midsized marking player. Byrne and Evans the 2 smalls.

The chance of finding 2 KPF's is remote, given we will only have the Swans 2027 1st round pick to Trade, and we will need that for 2028.

Here's the choices:

1. If you don't want Amartey as a FA who is gettable, and Lewis will likely stay, who are you thinking the club can realistically target?

2. If you can't think of a target better than Amartey, you are happy to go around again with Gov and Kemp as our KPF s and Harry our Fwd/ Ruck?

1. Not for all the tea in China. If you’re spending money on a goal kicker, get one that can kick goals.
Spend the money on Ben King.

2. Say what you will about Kemp, but his output is on par with Amartey.

Lets not make this bigger than what it is Cru. I think you missed my point, beggers can't be choosers.
I understand your caveat is IF.... but...

I am saying Kemp isnt a KPF. What is it that makes you think he is?

I am saying we need a KPF and I'm looking for a KPF we have a chance to land. Amartey is 195cm and has a higher reach and provides a better contest at the highest point than Kemp and Gov. Fact.

I am saying at the right price, Amartey is an improvement on Gov and kemp as KPF if there's no other choice.

Basically implied Swans have good reason why they play Amartey as a KPF. That's all. You dont really believe Gov and Kemp would replace Amartey at the Swans?

But with regards to your 2 points.

1. Ben King? I'm in. How do we get him? What chance have we got?
2. On par. As a KPF? No hope big buddy. You can put all the tea and opium in the world on Kemp being a KPF, but I bet it's not your tea or opium you're risking.

Have you heard if we are interested or have shown interest in Ben King? I haven't heard boo. Maybe that's a good thing. He's been my ideal target even if he doesn't do anything but lead mark kick. He's a specialist ala Gunston.

I’m not saying he’s a key position forward, only that his output is on par with the bloke being put forward as one.

Same output, despite being outsized. I don’t know if Kemp is capable of the extra 2-3 shots a game that he would get if he wasn’t dropping sodas. But, I’m pretty confident that Amartey isn’t going to hit the scoreboard any more often.

I just couldn’t pay Amartey more than Kemp. If I could choose neither, I probably would.

Agree 100% that we need to completely retool our rucks and forward targets.

Haven’t heard anything re King, but we’re drinking from the same tap. Get us a set shot specialist. It should be Moir, but he’s got shit for brains when we need it on the liver.

We’ll be in contention with a big bag of cash & the promise of a better environment. We’ve got part a ready to go and, thankfully, Dimma & the Boyz are going their hardest to make the Gold Coast look as bad as possible.

I'm with you. If we can't persuade Ben King, then use some of the salary cap space on Amartey.

I dont watch enough VFL/WAFL/SAFL or NEAFL (is that even a thing still?) but surely there is an "over looked in the draft" FF who on a packet chips type contract can come to us and we can nurture through our AFL program.

We seem to be ok doing this with Rucks, but the one area we are screaming for we havent had a developing forward on our list for years, only:

Harry Lemmey 2022 (3 drafts ago)
Patrick Kerr 2016 (too many ago)

Maybe I missed some one but two KPF draftees in 10 years seems light

There must be and there is.

Taj Murray...thanks Crusader for remembering the kids name.
https://central.rookieme.com/afl/2025/03/25/sanfl-u18s-player-focus-taj-murray-north-adelaide/#:~:text=NORTHERN%20Territory%20prospect%20Taj%20Murray%20has%20been%20plying,will%20be%20tied%20to%20the%20Allies%20in%202025.

This year I would look at our bottom 10 players (consider ceiling, age, ROI and ability), and drop them.
We have salary space, and will have another $2M+ with lucrative contracts ending this year for Williams, Saad, Gov, Haynes and Newman.
Lewis, Elijah, Boydy, and Fog will give us $1.5M to play with.

I think with a few new ready made, good footballers to fill KPF, HB and No 1 ruck and added depth and we can make Finals. Not Top 4 yet.
We should be developing a KPF and a KPD on the list, and I expect Riley to be our developing ruckman. Turn the list over.

Add another couple FA's end of 2027 with even more money to spend on players when Crippas, Pitto's Acres', contracts ends.

If we can get ourselves a couple more 2nd round picks from Trade, that wiould be good, but not if it reduces our depth: our decade long achilles heal.
