A much needed win today. We just had to find a way and we did in the end.
Cripps BOG. TDK not far behind.
Williams excellent up forward. Got to stick with it given small forward issues.
Smashed them around the ball and should have buried them much earlier.
First half was very frustrating with our terrible inside 50 entries and goal kicking.
Umpiring was abysmal today. To have 3 free kicks at 3QT when we’ve been first to the ball all day is rubbish.
Bank the win, get to 7-4 and try to snag another one or two before the bye.

Statistically a very even team performance.
And for all but a few minutes a full game team effort.
Interesting that when the umpires finally stopped favouring Suns, we skipped away.
We do not reward ourselves enough for our good play and keep other teams in it too much.

The $64 question is - with the form of TDK going it alone, how much of our performance correlates to the 1 ruckman. I think it equates to more wins than losses.

I am a 1 ruckman (TDK) advocate. Horses for courses, but in the main TDK can carry the load just fine. Harry, Charlie and a mix of Crippa/Kennedy/Martin up forward will do me. The absence of Pitto gives us more flexibility IMHO.

Shout out today in the 1st half for the running power of Ollie Hollands. Damn he can motor. Likewise the ground Walsh and Acres cover is astounding. Crippa was terrific but please, please don't revert to trying to do it all yourself. Extract and hand off.

We were pretty rock solid across the 22 today. Loved Cowan's attack on the ball. He is raw, but I'm excited about his commitment. A great move by the MC to move Williams forward to keep Cowan in the team.

Kempy miss a few targets but overall, he again showed he is the future. When he is surrounded by Weits, Gov, Newy and Saad and his confidence is obvious.

I had my head in my hands a few times but overall, they looked good more often than not.

Regards Cazzesman

The positives far outweighed the cons today. As I've said already, the end of the game frustrated me. But overall we dominated across the board. As much as I like Pitto, it's hard to argue with the results of 1 ruck v 2. TDK was terrific today against a pretty bloody good opponent.

Reckon Cripps saw it as a personal challenge against Rowell. Still the contested king.

McG was good. As was Weiters, Kemp, Newman and a solid return from Saad.

Really liked the move to half forward for Williams. Paid dividends today and I'd like to see some more of it.

Fog had a positive impact as well. If only he could take his chances in front of goal. Charlie battled on and to kick 4 was a good return given how well Mac Andrew played. (He's gone be done kind of player that kid).

The umpiring... FMD. How can you only get your 3rd free kick at the 31 minute mark of the 3rd quarter??? What a joke.

Anyway. Good win that we just had to get. Disappointed that we couldn't turn an 8 goal lead into a proper percentage booster, but a comfortable win all the same.

He must have watched the Reid highlight video this week.

Attempted more fends than ever!

Pros:

Nice to get a comfortable win.
Ball movement was good.
Cripps, Williams, TDK, McGovern, Harry and then eventually Charlie.
Walsh would have been in that group as well, if he hadn't kept turning it over.
Probably Oli's best game.
Kennedy and Fantasia pretty handy.
I love it when Newman gets to be the kicker into forward 50. Hardest kick in the game, and he almost always hits it.

Cons:

First half inaccuracy.
Ran out of puff half way through the last.
Kicking the ball to Mac Andrews.
Couldn't get a free for 3 quarters.
Outtackled again.
McGovern and Weiters looked pretty sore again.
Cowan got exposed by Long. Kemp by Lukosius.
Fogarty and Saad ran out of puff.

Re Cowan and Kemp being "exposed " by their opponents...
Cowan 19 disposals, 8 marks, 4 tackles; Long 9 disposals and 2 goals.
Kemp 19 disposals and 10 marks; Lukosius 10 disposals, 6 marks, 1 goal.

Just watched the game knowing we’d won beforehand and the hand wringing over the last ten minutes is pretty much a nothingburger.

The first two of GC’s last three goals were pretty unstoppable. Bailey Humphrey’s kick from the pocket was just a great @#$%&! kick.

Did we take our foot off the pedal a little at the end?

Maybe but we also came out with no new injuries (so far) and if you’d offered me a five goal win with no new injuries before today against a side with the same number of wins as us I’m signing up.

And there were plenty of other positives.

A forward line with Motlop, Martin, Fogarty and Williams as the smalls and Charlie and Harry could be electric.

Our current back seven are so solid when playing together.

TDK as the sole ruck just changes everything. I like Pitto but he’s a back up. There might be times where we need both but the results seem to suggest we’re far better with an extra runner. Which kind of makes sense seeing as we’re not the quickest team out there.

Cerra and Motlop maybe back next week.

Feeling more bullish than I have all year.

I reckon we will need to manage TDK and have Pittonet ruck a few times at least so TDK is fresh for the finals.

and that's pitto's worth. he's a quality back up to chop out tdk over the course of the season.

Thought we were pretty good today not great.

The tackling, although unrewarded with the umps, was our strong suit in congestion I thought. We kept Miller & Rowell quiet, both of whom I rate. That had a big say in our win

Defenders always win more ball.
Long's goals and goal assists kept the Suns in the game for 2 1/2 quarters. I like Cowan, but he lost in his one-on-ones.
Lukosius only moved forward in the second half, and took 3 contested marks one-on-one against Kemp. If he'd kicked straight, it would have been a real problem.

So….

we can hopefully add…Cerra…Motlop…Martin…
and Cotrell to this team…that’s some talent
right there…!

In order of importance…Cerra…Cotters…Martin…
Motlop…?

Whatta yas think…?

I can only drop Fantasia and Carroll…!

So Cerra for Carroll…and Cotters for Fantasia…?

fingers crossed everyone’s fit then it’s a
tough decision…!

No one mentioned Cinc's game....

Played a good negating role on Ainsworth I thought

Go Blues

Yeah, I thought Cincotta played on Miller.
Also, how about some recognition for the coaching?
We are very quick to knock the coaching team but they got the match ups right for the most part and also it was a good move to push Charlie deeper in the 2nd half.

David King mentioned on the coverage that the score from defensive half is a record for any team over the last 4 years. Let's if it continues.

He did mostly. Cincotta started half forward and then pushed onto Miller after the centre bounces. The first couple of quarters started with E Hollands starting as the centre square midfielder but then rotating with Cincotta and being the high half forward.
The forward mix up was good. Fogarty and Williams provide more mobility than playing TDK down there. Fogarty with the absolute footy IQ and Williams with the class. Fantasia seemed to play the Cottrell role of running half forward/rotating wing.
Love the team game of Matt Kennedy. Does whatever role is needed. 14 contested possessions, 8 score involvements, 5 intercept possessions, 5 tackles, 4 clearances and a goal. Whenever the opposition look like breaking away from a stoppage, he put the brakes on them.
Good to see Saad back and even better to see him get through the game.

Actually I’m not fussed as to whether we play either Pittonet or TDK as sole ruck, they’re both good options.
