Season defining game this week.

Simply MUST win.
I'm hoping for a win, but its going to be a very tough game. We're well under full strength and coming up against a team a game clear on top of the ladder at a ground we historically struggle at.

Our best is as good as any team.
We can beat Sydney.
And they are due for a loss.
We have lots of weapons. If our heads are in the game, we will apply pressure they’re not used to.
We have to stop Heeney and Gulden.
And they have to stop Cripps, Walsh, Charlie, Harry, and Weitering.
If we bring the pressure, they will be up against it.

Set the wheels in motion, and watch them turning round
I want to see the mighty blues crush the swans into the ground

Turn the pressure up
Cause I can feel it, It's rising like a storm
Take hold of them swans by the scruff and
Turn the pressure up

GO BLUES!

For some reason I think the smaller ground will suit us.

Bit disorganised and so when I tried to buy tickets earlier this week, there were only single tickets anywhere so I sadly won’t be going.

It’s going to be a very full SCG.

Speaking to Swans supporters, they actually respect our side now (first time in probably 25 years).

Defence even more important than anywhere else as the small ground means the turnover game particularly through the corridor invariably leads to a shot on goal.

I tried getting 3 tickets about 3 weeks ago
Couldn't get them.
Like you it will only about 2nd or 3rd time since 1983 I won't be going

Ha, here I was thinking I'd just put the word out to mates and treat myself to a family-free birthday treat. Ah well!

I've not been a regular by any means, but seen at least half a dozen Carlton games up here since coming home in 08, and I was always easy to get tickets... for Giants games I've not even had to pay.

We are playing GWS up here later this year in one of the unfinalised/unannounced rounds so will have to jump onto that pretty quick when announced.

Tom McCartin will miss this week as well.

Huge for our forward line which will stretch them especially if Pitto gets up

Risk is they slingshot it out too easily with their smaller defence. Need to find a way to bring that intense forward line pressure.

Just mark the ball. If it doesn’t hit the ground……

Tom Stewart was missing against the Cats and it was our worst defensive performance in terms of stopping the ball slingshotting from defence... Nothing is a given, ball will hit the ground and we have to be ready for it

Go Blues

The last two weeks James Jordon has locked down on opposition HB (Whitfield and J Clark).

May see him go to Newman this week.

So what is the profile of the current swans as far as scoring goes ? Do they rely on sling shotting off HB after a turnover? That stuff freaks us out a bit.
If it they play more of a straight up game and like a stoppage game into forward half game a bit like the dees then I give us a shot.
I havent watched them play much this year but assume as always with the swans whatever style they play with they will do it very well.

Their midfield & Port's midfield make me nervous

Hopefully.

The ball in Newman's hands less and Boyd's hands more will be a plus.

Yeah I don't think Sydney have enough defensive-minded half forwards to shut down all our half-back distributors ... Gov, Newman, Boyd... imagine if we had Saad and ZW available... they'd have no chance!

McCartin out is neither here nor there.
Aaron Francis will do an adequate job for them.
I think the smaller ground will make it a bit easier for us to defend around the ground.

They are a very good and well balanced team.
So are we.
They have some strong weapons. Heeney, Gulden, Warner, Papley, Lloyd and Parker (who I think will come in with a point to prove) come to mind.
We have we several too. Charlie, Harry, Crippa, Walsh, Weitering come to mind.

This is a big game for us and I relish the challenge; I imagine the boys are looking forward to it as well.

We can win this. And we should.
FWIW, I don't think they have had nearly as tough a run as we have. They beat Melbourne, Collingwood and Essendon* in the first 3 weeks when they were all well-below their best (esp Coll & Ess). Since then, the only tough game has been Vs GWS but that is the 'Battle of the Bridge' which both teams would lift for. Other than that, they lost to Richmond, beat the Eagles by 4 goals, and have beaten Hawthorn, Gold Coast and a shell-shocked Freo convincingly.

They are playing well and Lpngmire is a great coach IMO.
But we are as good as any team at our best. Bring our best and we should win.
