First OP, now the hip. Let's hope hope he is okay by round 1. We need him. Great player and I reckon underrated except by the umpires as shown by last year's Brownlow.

More than likely its a spur in the hip socket causing the OP signs. Kreuzer had preventative surgery on his hip after a spur was detected at draft camp.

The spurs are a major reason for OP in a lot of footballers, just took the doctors along time to work it out.

Hopefully that's the problem and after rehab its full steam ahead.

It could be something as simple as Trochanteric Bursitis of the hip.....painful but fixable (usually with x Ray guided cortisone shots)

Where are all those supporters complaining about drafting too many midfielders?

I think you are right.

When Mk had his op done there was a big article in The Age discussing this issue with an Orth. Surgeon, saying it was related/causing OP, and would be the next OP ( in terms of it becoming the next new common injury issue in the AFL).

The surgery sounded pretty straight and devoid of risk, with a quick rehab time.
MK had his surgery quite a few weeks post draft and was ready to go for the start of the year.

I agree with Teaguey and Hacks. It is extremely unlikely he has two separate conditions. Hip problems often present with referred pain to the groin and anterior thigh. Osteitis pubis is a poorly understood symptom complex that probably has several underlying pathologies. In Murphs case if a spur in the hip joint has been discovered then this would likely explain his OP symptoms. A hip cleanout which removes the spur and the source of inflammation is likely to have a better prognosis than chronic musculo-ligamentous groin strain/inflammation ("classic OP) and the treatments (largely physiotherapy) that are purported to help with this.

Bounce back Murph

If the operation will get him back to 100% I guess this is good news.
Much better than Murph having the dreaded OP curse.

I think it's a blessing. As I said earlier all of these MUDs we drafted get the opportunity they may not have.

Cachia, Lucas and Ellard should all get good game time in the NAB Cup now.
