I'm almost tempted to send a box of lettuce to the club, but we're not Richmond... pity....

I think this really hurts Walker and Houlihan. The two are not first choice players anymore and this leaves them with a massive hole in their 2010 campaign.

Betts on the other hand will just walk back in to the team for say Round 2. Even when he is unfit he can play his designated role. For a second offence so quickly after the first I'd have liked to have seen something else applied, but I guess they wanted consistency.

I would have however liked a broader threat to the group on the next offence. Im sick to death of reading negative slant article on the Club after the decade we've had.

They will also miss their match payments from the NAB Cup, which if we play a couple of rounds will be a fair sum on top of the existing fines.

This episode is not just about punishing, it's about education and culture change. Handing out huge penalties doesn't bring about incentive for culture change, it's what happens afterwards that will determine improvement.

If penalties are over-the-top, it will foster resentment within the playing group and no improvement will come about.

I dunno... that lettuce leaf looks pretty crisp to me. Couldn't find a limp one?

Look, it's difficult to say whether they've gone hard enough or not. The problem is, this is the same club that let Fev get away with so much for so long, that many of us don't trust them to get it right anymore.

Missing all the NAB cup matches effectively means they're probably suspended for the first two rounds of the season, which is twice the penalty that a certain Adelaide player got for assaulting his partner, and I think more than a Port Adelaide player got for punching someone in the face at the airport. So you'd have to think it's about right.

The only thing that matters is if the players themselves recognise they stuffed up, and if the group as a whole understand that they can't afford to do this sort of stuff anymore. Anyone can say sorry, but words are meaningless.

Not sure about Betts' automatic selection in the seniors Molsey, as I think there is considerably more pressure on his place in the side from Garlett and Yarran this year.

I do think the club genuinely believes they have made progress in the area already with the removal of Fev, Cloke, and Stevens. To some extent they are probably trying to give the playing group some time to adapt to increased behavioural expectations.

I will say though that a proper investigation would have identified the senior player to whom Casboult was handcuffed (I think we can all guess who that was) and provided punishment there too. I don't have a problem with the punishments handed out, but to me we look weak by not having identified anyone OTHER than those already identified by the media. Doling out punishment to someone other than the ones named would have made us look more proactive and less reactive on the whole issue.

It will be interesting to see whether the response is good enough for the AFL (I suspect it will be... but let's watch this space).

Well we now have the words from the Captain's mouth and I see he apologised to the Club for not showing any leadership on the cruise in a previous post.

Happy with the suspensions from training with the main group, but are the match suspensions for NAB Cup or the NAB Challege Cup or both?

Harder to find than you'd think, actually.
Society (and Google images too, apparently) only cares about the firm, nubile lettuce leaves.

:yikes:

All the Carlton haters are having a ball on the radio.....

Key outcome I hope is that the leadership group takes more responsibility. While this episode is very disappointing, the mass hysteria is nearly comical.

I have been unable to hang myself, and deep down somehow I blame Carlton for that.
As such I am off to VISY park to burn it to the ground.
We are so [REDACTED] I have no choice.

..am i readin' things wrong?, i thought the suspension was for H&A, as well as them sitting out the NAB cup, which personally shouldn't rate.. ..that should be an auto omission, even if it's more to give us other options to trial there..

..agree with Molsey, Bett's will be an auto inclusion, those that think havin' a couple more small forwards on the list means that Eggy Betts is automatically under pressure really, and i mean really under-rate Betts performance.. ..both Errol and Yazza will need to improve out of sight to both combined have the same output Betts did last season.. ..neither is currently half as good as Betts..

It will be good for the rest of the players (and for training watchers) not having Betts, Houlihan and Walker running around at training for a while. They can get on with the job. IMO it should be six weeks.

Desperate bunch are the HS.

They all brought negative press, but ultimately, none of them did a whole lot that can't be explained away by the hysteria surrounding them (Houla's gf & zero-tolerance in the CBD). The issue here was always the drinking, and I'm happy with the punishments because it does put a gaping hole in their pre-season, which will affect their positions on the list at the very least.

Sick and tired of hearing how it's a substandard culture. The only thing that happened here is that a bunch of football players who live under constant scrutiny got a little too loose when they were in the relative privacy of a booze cruise. Poor form, yes, but not beyond comprehension.

Absolutely over the top from all corners, these cruises happen hundreds of times a year, and they regularly get much worse. I can recall one that a mate attended: a man was kicked off after bottling another man, narrowly missing his eye and cutting a deep wound just above his eyelid. Our blokes tied themselves to one another and egged each other on. That cruise kept running...

Feel free to quote this and feverishly comment until you have a stroke...

..Jimmae, bro'.. ..when you compare our behaviour, to the crap behaviour that others do, and say ours wasn't as bad as theirs.. ..it's a weak arguement.. ..we shouldn't be concerned about what other idiots get up to on the sauce..

Here, here, Jimmae.

The issues have been dealt with, the offenders sanctioned. No matter what your personal opinion of either is they've been handled by the club.

Everyone, like the players and the club itself, now needs to put it all behind us and move on.
