I completely agree and was sort of alluding to that.
However, you have to give the guys some sort of freedom during their time off. Just goto hope they care more about there bodies and minds than they do about taking pills and 'having fun'.

You love hearing those stories about guys that spent their break running and in the gym focussing on pushing their game to a new level. Lets just hope we hear more of these type of stories as opposed to the 'Been spotted drunk and fighting in Thailand' stories...

I cringe a bit when I read of players spending their break 'training'.
I think the break should be a real break from the mental and physical grind.

I don't think binge drinking and getting blotto is very clever either.

If you knew the story behind the dildo, there would be 100 more pages in this thread

Papers and talkback radio would not shut up about it. Actually Neil Mitchell has attacked Fev quite harshly (so I am told) so he might be onto it.

Get over it. Move on.

Here, here to the posters who mentioned that this many pages on such a ridiculous topic shows just how stupid we are all becoming. Lock it.

..heh, a bit off topic here.. ..but with players and smoking pot, and it being against the drugs code.. ..is it purely a legality issue, cos surely it cant be for sports enhancement.. ..and if it's just a legality issue, what about the S.A clubs, or players from other clubs being in S.A where it's decriminalised..

Synbad you have clearly lost all perspective. I thought were in Australia??? Whats is wrong with having a few beers and getting pissed every now and again? As long as they dont abuse others (same and opposite sex) or brake any laws its more than ok. I mean its the AFL they are playing a code of football unique to this country, organic and original. Its our culture and wether you like it or not so is beer and yes after you have a few you get pissed. Alcohol is a great way to let off steam and if these boys need a few drinks at the end of the season to unwind then so be it. I have it on good authority Fev was off the booze entirely towards the end of the season In my eyes he deserved a nite off. As for the dildo what happen to LArikinsim, good old aussie taken the piss, Thats not new mate really crap effort by people trying to sell a few papers and tv adds.

SO if you want to blame the players for being less then perfect I think you have some real issues.

Teague just on the ABC TV saying that the Carlton VFL players elected not to go to the Mad Monday celebrations.

He said it was the Players choice as he did not put any restrictions on them

Australia has one of the worst drinking cultures in the world.

The upshot is, that any young bloke who doesn't go out looking to get pissed is seen as having something wrong with him.

Getting smashed, vomiting, waking up covered in crap... it's all a part of the rites of passage.

Maybe one day we'll grow out of it.

But there's a very big difference between having a few beers, and "having a few"... which is a euphemism for drinking so much you can't function.

So yeah sinners. Stop being so UnAustralian, you traitor.

Heard Scott West say so many times in interviews that he ran every day during the off season.
Said it is very easy to stay fit, much much harder to regain lost fitness.

Daily swimming is low impact and should keep their condition during their break.

Continuous running all year round has to take its toll long term.

John in the eighties StKilda had a promising 16 year old by the name of Rod Owen.
He ended up with a drinking problem.
I remember hearing an interview with him .. he said "The first day i arrived at the club some of the older boys invited me to StKilda by shoving a 'Crowny' in my hand.

Youd like to think the world has moved on from a cactus drinking culture and even though 16 year olds are not who enters clubs these days and that theyre 17/18 yr olds.. that clubs and players are far more responsible.

It has nothing to do woth the drinking culture, You make it so extreme to get your point across. What happened to Live and let live thats Australian. Its amazing how people take things personal if you say something contrary to there beliefs but yet they feel free to slag off at players and have smear compaigns against them online and feel as if its there right. The Boys are at a pub having a beer!!!! I cant believe anyone can find this offensive, really im sorry if i offended anyone on this forum but I would like us just to ease up on the players I think we take it to far.

I played against Rod Owen as a junior the years before he got drafted. He was coached by Barry Lawrence and was playing with Barry's son Dale. He had a drinking problem before he got to St Kilda and was smoking through his early teens too.

But the kid was a fxxxxx freak.......60m torps either foot splitting the goals from the boundary.
