Do the Crows forward line require Setanta to go back this week as he would be handy up forward?

I would say they will attempt to stretch us, and have the good cattle, flexibility in game style and refined skills to make it work.

Maric, Hentschel, Tippett, Sellar and the possibility of Bock. Austin must be brought in.

At the moment - Yarran is playing the same role as Betts and Garlett.

Small forward. He has shown nothing to suggest he can take an overhead mark or even lead.

He is small. Somehow we got his height wrong. At 180cm he is small.

At 185cm, he may have been a 3rd marking option.

Match committee should move him on fast, before we get stuck with him.

He will not play in the finals this year.

No Hads?

Carrots can take his role, no probs. Won a B&F in the guts and All-Australian junior in that role. 35 possies last week, huge tank. He'll do me.

I think it's time to have another look at Browne. The kids deserves a go and should be rewarded for his very consistent Ants form. Why Yarran when Garlett and Betts so good up forward lately? Browne an ideal "Crows" type hard nut for this week and would do us some good to take a look at him before the finals.

Big Grigga fan, but in no hurry to get him back if he's not meeting MC expectations.

Assuming Armfield and Hammer are OK to play -

In: Armfield, Hammer
Out: Hadley (inj), Cloke

Cloke has done a decent job in the last 2 weeks, but Hammer is the future and deserves to be in the 22. If Hammer doesn't come up, I'd even be tempted to bring Jacobs or Warnock in.

AJ T-Bird JR
Army Bower Scotland
Simmo Tex Hoops
Carrots Carlos Gibbs
Betts Fev Wiggo

Kreuzer Judd Murphy

Inter: Hammer, Stevo, Garlett, Joey

Austin matches up well for adelaide's guys like porplyzia etc we need aussie, and he's a handy guy to have around in the finals.

Armfield and hammer are breakout stars amongst our list, both have made dramatic improvements this year, both deserve their place in the 22 if fit.

If for some reason any body apart from CaulfieldRover thinks that a club - any club should discard a kid and Yarran is a kid - he was drafted as a young 18 year old - after one year then what does it say about that club.

One idea is that it has NFI about its recruiting.

The only one with this view seems to be CaulfieldRover.

Another idea is that the club is just going through the motions; this is a slur on the professionalism of the staff that are involved in the analysis and recruitment of young kids. Where does it say that all selections will be 100 or 200 game players? Evidence suggests that most picks do not play 20 let alone 50, 100 or 200 games.

Given the club's perseverance with one player who has taken time to develop (interstate from Adelaide) and who has now played over 50 games the likelihood of Yarran leaving Carlton in 2010 is less than CaulfieldRover selecting to support his local team and quitting this forum.

Sensible argument is good and keeps this website alive and of interest. There does need to be some basis for the position you take.

The recommendation to discard Yarran as a player at this point in his career has not a lot of substance as an argument.

As aplyer he has shown what he can do in WA and given glimpses of this both in the VFL and AFL. That he is not a 21 year old (like Rich) is a function of his age and playing experience.
Not many 18 year olds are like 21 year olds. [some of us can remember the difference in our world views let along capacity to deal with changesbetween these two reference points].

Lets just move on, Yarran will be at Carlton in 2010.

Here's my 2 bobs worth...

Anyone considered Johnson as a replacement in defence. Played pretty good game in the A nts, and a positive is his accurate disposal by foot?

Yarran appears to have upped his intensity ...As anyone who saw him in the last quarter against Sydney, where he dodged and weaved and burnt off several Swans players, ,& kicked that great goal, know what he's capable of. He showed signs of this yesterday. I know it's a risk, but he's an X-factor for mine going into the finals.
A big wrap, but could be another Cyril Rioli in the making?

Hammer, if fit, must come in to help Kreuze. If not fit, Sauce or warnock.

Armfield to replace Ando, who got stitched up by Robbo.

Wiggo is on the verge. Must do better or will lose his spot Other considerations...Grigg or Bentick.

The ruck is an interesting spot at the moment
what do you want some one who wins the taps and maybe hits 1 in 3 to advantage which is about the norm or some one who hardly wins a tap but offers more around the ground
Clokes been ok around the ground
Hampson apart from that courages effort where he injured himself has been Mr dropsy

Pity we don't have room for both as I think we are going to need Irish down back to free up Thornton and the last few games he has been inaffective up forward

o'hailpin down back im not keen on, sure it frees up thornton perhaps, but it means fev is alone up forward basically, we're resigned to the fact cloke isnt up to it, wiggins, walker etc arent tall options so fev will get double teamed like presti and maxwell mauled us when we played them. . .a chf who is as damaging as fev is what we need, and even if carlos isnt dominating, he's keeping another defender out of fevola's way. Freeing up space for fev in finals is the diff between us pushing for a prelim and us losing straight away.

Team balance is good atm. Out: Hadley, Cloke In: Arnfield, Hampson (or Jacobs/Warnock). Joe Anderson will play, those of you who reckon he'll be dropped after his creative AND defensive display on Saturday will be proven wrong.
And Caulfieldrover, you have no $*%&ing idea re: Chris Yarran. The coach himself stated the other day (? on radio) that Chris Yarran is the most talented player he's ever seen come to the club - so do you reckon we'll be looking to offload him at the end of the year?

If Hammer isn't ready to play what about going both Warnock and Jacobs, Kreuzer to CHF, Carlos to defence for height cover, Warnock in the pocket would be virtually impossible to outmark if the ball comes in high to the top of the square which means if he doesn't mark it there is opportunity galore for Betts/Garlett (Yarran?) If Jacobs doesn't cut it in the ruck then Warnock can take on that role. I don't believe there is room for both of the big boys in the same team longer term, but for his week perhaps a shoot out between the two for the one spot that may be up for grabs?

Did anyone notice how during kickouts, we targeted Cloke a few times? A strong mark on the defensive 50 is gold in that context, and put Warnock there instead, that kick and subsequent mark is almost a given and would provide a decent rebound point for an offensive play.

Bring in Warnock, it has to be done, please please please.
