being a bit realistic there aren't you Dadada? This board is more lately suited to vitriol, despair and irrational pesimism.

to be honest with you I rank Selwood ahead of Gibbs. Selwood plays with that bit of spunk which I think is lacking with Gibbs. Nevertheless Gibbs is a very good footballer. Gibbs could probably play in more positions than Selwood which gives him greater scope to turn games. I was just trying to balance things out. I can tell you Gibbs would be having a picnic if he played for Geelong right now.

even I looked good playing in winning teams.

moving along just nicely

he is where I expected him to be

just wonder how he would be going if he played in a team like Geelong ... noticed it took Selwood around a half a game to get his first kick against Brisbane ... Geelong lost ... oh funny about that ... not funny that Geelong lost but Selwood got a taste of what it is like to play for a team that is well beaten.

Im with Wild Blue Yonder, such a strange post.... very sensible and realistic.... I think he's doing well and hope he continues to improve from a good player into a star. Totally different player to selwood.

Deano the poll shows that the kid aint a star.
So get off the Gibbs is a star and anyone who thinks he isnt doesnt know footy and admit it isnt as empathic as you think.

Gibbs needs to work on his deficincies. If he doesnt the karma bus will arrive.

Just ask Stevo

Gibbs will keep himself in better shape than Stevens.
Thats for sure. Anyone could.

But gibbs can learn a valuable to what has happened to Stevo.
Both are smart players. problem is Stevo has dropped a yard in pace.
When that happens if you have little defensive side to your game, cant mark overhead and dont like the physical stuff you become a liability because you cant play anywhere and be exposed.

That's absolutely brilliant news. Just need to get Twiggers to get her a nice modelling job somewhere and she'll never want to leave.

Gibbs has an amazing ability to significantly influence the course of a game.... against St.Kilda (especially the 2nd quarter) and Geelong come to mind. Very few players in the league have this ability IMO.

Hey Dane Are you related to my old sparing partner Verbs.

You both have a similar take on all things Gibbs and life

For your information Stevens was dropped because he was lazy, fat for an AFL footballer and wasnt puttin' his head over the footy.

During the middle of the season, some of Gibbs efforts were pathetic. Fact. Get a tape against Freo at the Gold Coast.Dropped marks, lack of second efforts.

Unlike you and verbs who trott out pure one sided crap from time to time I see things from different points of view.
Gibbs last 3 weeks have been awesome.
he is 9 years younger than Stevo which means he has time on his side to improve his second efforts, hard ball gets and overhead marking. He has. Good on him
maybe he reads my posts on TC

Dont forget though Judd gets the tagger.
For Gibbs to be classed a star he must pass the tag test. Stevo hasnt. Just ask Chance Bateman and Kane Cornes

But he has amazing skills a great footy brain and I love watching him when he is on.

my opinion, for what its worth (and, really, the only person who matters is myself), Gibbs is a better player than Selwood.

I'm not saying that through rose colored glasses, I'm not saying that with bias loyalty to a guy who plays for us... I just think that time will tell that Gibbs is a more talented footballer.

Is he as hard as Selwood? probably not, but Joel's body will feel the effects of his reckless attack on the footy one day. That's not saying Bryce is soft, not at all, just that when we really get up and running our boy will prove his worth.

Either way, the question isn't 'whose better?' in this thread, anyway. It's 'is Gibbs a star?'. Is he a star right at this moment? once again, probably not.

Will he be? Absolutely, not a doubt in my mind. We have one of those most brilliantly gifted footballers I've had the pleasure of seeing. His vision, range of passing, awareness (save a few little hiccups here and there), work in traffic, coolness and temperament all prove to me he is a star.

2010, and possibly September 2009, will be Bryce's big year.

People can we please remember that Bryce is a kid??
He is 20 freakin years old. D.O.B 15 March 1989.
He is nearly 2 years younger than Murph (19 July 1987)
and nearly a whole year younger than Selwood (26 May 1988)

It is almost impossible to be an out and out "star" at his age.
But for what he's shown at this age is amazing really. Of course he's going to be a star. He will be an elite player of the AFL.

Honestly.. 20 years old!!!!

..well said.. ..he's on the right path no doubt about it.. ..but it takes a few seasons of top shelf footy to get there.. ..he will..
