..the big Setant' won't play down back, don't worry.. ..he's better as a forward, and now pretty much everyone knows it.. ..his form's improving [contested/pack marking!!] and hitting a finals series he's one player we definately need to leave with a specific week in, week out role.. ..and honestly, Thorny and Bower will cover their talls, and our rucks will be too dangerous pushing fwd for them to persist with their rucks doing likewise for too long, am happy to gift their rucks the odd goal cos i back our young, high jumping, quick and long lasting rucks to cover more ground and push deeper/faster.. ..their rucks will be chasing tail, so no need for Setanta down back.. ..he'd be more a 'down back last resort' type option i reckon..

The one we week we get the structure right, we think we can fit it for every opposition...

Watch as the resting ruckman carves us.

no austin, what a JOKE!!! thornton and bower are not KEY defenders. both will set up from defence and can play but neither are KEY defenders like austin. o'hailpin is not a defender either, plays across the forward line very well.
we are in need of a KEY defender with waite and jamison out.
not happy at all!!!! just dont understand?
we will leak like the titanic

I like the 2 tall backline. Allows us to be more attacking and changes our frame of mind. The resting ruck may get 2 or 3 but the run we get will generate more than that for us. All relies on Russell (or Walker) to play as well as Russell did last week.

If the resting Ruck causes too much of a problem then Setanta can go back ala Roos game.

I will be happy with a scrappy, unconvincing , bumbly win.

Please... What has Aussie done that makes you think he can be a key defended right now? The North forwards carved him up..

It's cliched, but it's all about intensity. Although Port have been flogged twice at AAMI, they have still won 8 out of 10 there. They are horrible away, but generally reasonable and sometimes even good at home. If we turn up flat as we have done at times and they have one of their on days they will beat us. If we are switched on, even if they are,we should win

have hardly been ripped apart by a tall forward line all year..
play our best when we go 2 talls down back and just run..
play the game on our own terms.

Its very rare for a resting ruckman to kick a bag of goals and even if they do, as long as Thornton or Bower are running off them at every chance we'll come out ahead.

While Port have Westhoff, we have nothing to fear!!

Gray is the most dnagerous forward by a long way IMO.

juzzy,
north forwards carved him up. hale kicked 8 on scarlett big f@#$$ deal!!! one bad game, every other player at carlton has yet to play a bad game, what a stupid comment!!!
the fact that he is 193cm who weighs 93kg and was recruited as a KEY defender tells me that is why carlton picked him up, not a rebounding defender like bower and thornton.[big difference]
maybe you should go back and watch some tapes, because what i have seen in austin's 9 games this year is that he can play a key role in our defence.

If Austin doesn't run out on the ground.....they would have a reason for that decision.

We could play with no big defenders, as long as we play with the intensity of last week, Port will be snuggling behind 'The Chad' looking for protection. Only problem with that theory is Fev will unleash the knee and they will need a truck load of 2 ply to clean up the mess.

I'm probably a little daft but can someone explain to me ...

Garlett was an IN last night and tonight He's not even an emergency.
