With Carlton taking on Port Adelaide this week, and Essendon* taking on Saint Kilda - an interesting thought has popped into my head.

If we knock off Port we still leave the door ajar for Essendon* (who are only half a game behind) to still make the finals.

Granted the Scum probably won't knock off the Saints, but by us getting beaten by the Power we would be giving Essendon*'s
chances of make the finals a severe denting.

Obviously I want us to win regardless, and any form going into the finals is precious... but it makes me think - if we were to
lose, there's a tiny consolation prize in there.

Because, dammit - I'd love nothing more than for Carlton to make the finals... and have Essendon* and Collingwood outside the eight. :smoking:

I actually did the ladder predictor today and had us finishing 5th should we beat Port Adelaide and 6th Should we lose. The interesting thing was though was that in my predictor we were to play the Bulldogs whether we finish 6th or 7th.

If we were to lose to Port and it meant the Scum don't make it it wont be such a bad thing

However win every game and we're a chance at the top 4 - I like that more

Tempting though that thought is Sparky,
Imagine playing the Dons and beating them when it counts.
I think the Woods will be in the top 4...and beating them there would also be quite nice dontcha think?

There is no dilemma.

We keep winning and whoever we meet in September, SHOULD we make it, as it is not a given, we just keep on winning.

That is our only dilemma - TO KEEP WINNING!

While watching the last quarter of the Scum game against Brisbane, I was pretty confused as to who I would prefer to win. Brisbane losing gives Carlton a better chance for the top four but watching Essendon* win another close game would've be terrible, I suppose the ending was good to watch.

Although it would be heart warming watching Essendon*'s season shatter, but if it came at the cost of Carlton losing (especially without priority picks at stake), it certainly won't be worth it.

Where's the dilemma?

Surely people don't want us to lose to manipulate who gets into eighth.
We are battling for a home final for flowers sake.
Next person to post something so stupid should be banned.

Hold on to your hat, buzz........ If we lose to both Port AND Crows we'll be in much better position :yikes: .

That will keep the scummers and dawks out, port in and almost guarantee us a home final against the puppies.

If we beat the Crows we'll play the pups and should we win, will most likely head to Qld to play the Brions. Should we lose against the Crows, we'll play Puppies followed by either Pussies or the ferals at the G.

...or we could take yours and DUCs approach and win at all costs....bearing in mind, of course, how far losing has got us to this point in time  .

My concern is Hawthorn getting in and being 8th, as i think we will end up 5th.
If we get Hawks in finals, its good night for us, we wont beat them. They are a dangerous team.
I think Hawks will beat Adelaide on Friday night which would temporarily have them in the 8, of we lose to Port the Hawks go back out. But Hawks last couple of games are Richmond and Essendon* they will win both them.

Worst case we play Hawks
Best case in my opinion is we play Port here

But i agree with the above, we just have to keep winning and build up confidence leading into finals... im very wary of a let down and a bit of cockiness this week... Port will be hard to beat considering they got turkey slapped by Freo

Sheedy did it in 2001 when they lost to Richmond allowing them into 4th spot knocking us down to 5th. They didn't want to play us in the first week because we had already beaten them twice that year.

In the end it didn't win them a flag, but at the time I'm sure they thought it was the best course of action.

I don't ever watch a game hoping to lose (except R22 2007  ) but I won't be heart broken if we lose to both Adelaide teams.

I don't care who else gets into the 8, as long as we are there!

Let's face it, win lose or draw once we are there, it shows we HAVE improved.

I'd rather take baby steps up than giants steps down.

What are people on about... we're gonna play the Aints in the first week of finals...

This is how I predict things will go down:

R20
Hawks v Crows - Crows win <- They are favourites
Lions v Bulldogs - Bulldogs win <- Even money game basically... and i don't rate the Lions
Power v Blues - Blues win <- We are favourites

R21
Bulldogs v Cats - Cats win <- They will go in favourites
Blues v Demons - Blues win <- We will go in favourites
Crows v Eagles - Crows win <- They will go in favourites
Lions v Power - Lions win <- They will go in favourites

R22
Swans v Lions - Lions win <- I think it will be an even money game, but lets give it to the Lions
Pies v Dogs - Pies win <- They will go in favourites (unless dogs beat cats which is highly unlikely)

Then its Blues v Crows at TD... should Carlton win the top 8 will look like this

Saints
Cats
Pies
Blues
Lions
Dogs
Crows
(the other)

should we lose

Saints
Cats
Pies
Crows
Lions
Dogs
Blues
(the other)

so if all the above (all favourites) happen... we will either play Saints with a double chance... should we lose face the winner between the Dogs and Crows...

OR

We play Dogs and should we win, play the loser of Saints and Crows

The most important result for us this week apart from us winning is... We need to Dogs to defeat the Lions... then i would be hoping for the Hawks to defeat the Crows...

I want a home final too. That's why we must lose. We must lose to secure a home final  .

Just think, we lose 2 of the last 3 finish 7th and play the dogs. The media and filth supporters will scoff.

They'll scoff and splutter that we're no good and just making up the numbers. We bring in WARNOCK and win against the dogs.

They say we haven't really beaten anyone yet and we were lucky. We tee up a Semi against the black and white ferals who will think they're a shoe-in.

We smack them in front of 100K and then face the Saints again at the G for a chance to play the cats in the GF.

Of course, we beat them again by 5 goals and take home #17.

Some times ya gotta go back before you can go forward  .

Are we that good that we can switch off winning and losing then switch back on again in time for finals?

Winning is good
Losing is bad
