We dont need Austin in that linup. Also if walker is going to play back i dont think we need Bower Jamo and thornton back their. Sacrifice one of them (thornton) for some more dash. Prefer the Cats model of two talls and a bunch of dashing runners.
Something for the future perhaps once we have seen how walker holds up. I reckon he will play wing this week. Seem to get out of the way of a few contests last week in the ants so out wide and using his run is the go.

It does look one of our better sides on paper and there is still plenty of room for improvement. The future looks bright.

Walks was interviewed last week and said he would probably play in the midfield. If he is allowed to run free it will be great as we have been lacking someone with run. Armfield and Robbo also provide run and freneticism even though their disposal might not be perfect.
IIR, we were beaten last year by them using a ruck as a stationary forward and that may be why we have gone tall. The MC wouldn't see the Roos team before selecting ours.
I'm looking forward to some old fashioned enthusiasm and attack on the footy. If we get to it first, we can afford a few skill errors as long as we get to it first again afterwards.

I suspect Austin was selected in the expectation Hale would play and that we might need extra cover.

However, for all the talk Geelong play 2 talls and lots of runners... Mackie and Harley are just talls who play smaller. We have players who can do the same. I don;t think we're actually that top-heavy when you consider we have talls who like to run (Bower, Walker, O'Hailpin, etc) on the ground.

Great to hear Andy's back.

I hope you're back too, DOA. Haven't seen you for a while.

I'm as excited about Walker coming back as i was for his debut. Go Tex.
I hope he picks up the gameplan quickly.

Wish him the best DOA.

I am so rapted for Walks. Hopefully all this shoulder business is behind him for good, and he can show the competition that he is the superstar that we know he is. DOA, please pass on our best wishes.

We're all saying Austin's not needed but haven't considered what position(s) he'll be used in.
He's very good below the knees and adds flexibility and hence unpredictability (not unpredictability and hence flexibility). He can be used forward and wing as well as back. IMO he has potential to benefit a great deal from receiving AFL game time.

Meh, Jamo and Bower are just as good on smalls as well as talls. Bower provides plenty of dash. Austin will be on and off the bench.

Hesitantly agree, but against a better side, we need a better structure. Would have preferred one of Garlett or Yarran to be in the team.

I actually see this as the line-up:

B: Joseph - Jamison - Armfield
HB: Scotland - Bower - Thornton
C: Walker - Houlihan - Gibbs
HF: Stevens - O'hAilpin - Carrazzo
F: Betts - Fevola - Simpson
Foll: Kreuzer - Murphy - Judd
I/C: Russell - Robinson - Austin - Hampson

Little tall on the bench, but otherwise good.

Finally got the selection right. The team looks much stronger on paper. Absolutely NO excuses this week!

Doesn't he play for melbourne?

:thanks: WALKER is back :thanks:

Same selections and line up as I picked.

I too picked Austin for Hale if needed as a trial if all else failed instead of sacficing our CHF who doesn't need to play in the Ants. Welcome back SETANTA. He'll be right.

Team picked on form. I've already forgotten the last game (seen it 3 times and really it was just on off game).

A team picked on form. Armfield is playing better right now and has all season including preseason than Grigg. Sure Grigg has more upside and a better footballer, but right now it's about form; enough said.

Speaking of form, Stevens has got no choice but to bust a gut, so I expect a huge one from him...may even do the Hadley role at times  .

Welcome back Robbo. About time. This time play for keeps because you could keep a spot for the finals if you play as you did early this year.

Great team with Waite and Warnock missing. Kreuzer forward looks good. Hurry up Warnock.

Did I mention

:thanks: WALKER is back! :thanks:

And we'll win just because Walker is back, forward, middle, anywhere and everywhere. He is so fresh, so fit and so eager, after 40 possessions in the ressies..........can't wait.

Simpson farewell....pfffft. We have something more serious on our agenda FINALS and a spot in the team to play FINALS. :gift:

This is the last throw of the dice. Lose this and I can't stand it any more.

We will run them ragged.

Should be close....probably a 42 point win (minimum) to the Bluebaggers. :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

Just get the 4 points boys. Please

Great selection of Robbo. The MC have handled this bloke well. He'll be jumping out of his skin. They would've killed him if they played him all year.

I agree.
Jamo and Bower can take a couple of their medium sized forwards whilst Thornton and Austin can take the talls. You'd think Hansen would spend all his time up forward whilst Petrie/McIntosh might rotate through the forward line.
