“We were very reactive early against Fremantle and it’s pretty fair to say our first quarter was just terrible".

Now is he talking about the players became reactive or moves from the (ringwood district premiership coach) coaches box?

This 'reactive' kind of play has got us a number of times now. Surely the players don't react, its coming from the main man himself.

..i love it.. .... ..more teams win off the back of a few players standing up and taking control of the game, than teams winning by an even spread of equal contribution.. ..that's why every team has it's core of star players that generally 'star' for their team and help them win games..

That's what I say DUC  . Ratten should be very, very happy he has this guy in the side. He amazes me with his strength and determination. He almost single handedly saved Ratts from a very sad flight home.

Ratts has a touch of the Spud Frawleys about him - constantly quoting stats and making them fit his argument for the neagtive or positive - a bit like TC :thanks: .

Just as a matter of interest what is the different between CFC withy Judd and the rest.

Lyon has Nic
Voss has Brown
Malthouse has Didak
Thompson has Ablett.

It's all relative. Good players make coaches look good at times by dragging their team to victory. Judd is no different

Was the two loose man in back 50 an overreation to his comments that at Carrara they let the Dockers go over the top inside 50 and run on to it too much?
The problem is we seem to only re-act not make the play or force the re-action.
Not sure we are overly focussed on our positive game structures as well as a negative ones. That is my main concern.

I actually believe Ratts was shitting himself not to lose that game.... more than he was ready to win it....

Sounds like the coach is scared. Funnily enough, fear often leads to the outcome you're afraid of.

Best example is holding the ball in the air with 2 mins left in the qtr. What are the stats on socres afters the ball is raised? I'll bet the opposition scores more heavily.

The pressure to perform as coach is upon Ratts for the first time and he seems to be responding by worrying about the opposition. The players have been poor at times but I suspect the message isn't getting through clearly.

Players often become reactive following a loss. They wait until a teammate wins the ball before spreading from the contest or occasionally pay their opponent more respect than they should.
Its a common reaction to a minor loss of confidence. Especially with young players.

...but hey, if you can manipulate the comment and use it to bag Ratten, knock your socks off. I dont think anyone would expect any different.

BTW, can anyone tell me, who were the 2 loose players in our backline and did we instigate playing loose players or were the Dockers playing a 4 man forward line?

Once they players starting putting in all the plans fell into place.....except for the converting.

Liked the look of the zone. I have not seen it work like that for us before. Will take a few seasons to wire but it looks a handy tool. They could barely get it over halfway in the second half. Then they resorted to flooding to try and hold on to the lead.

That's true Da'man, but Brisbane is probably the only team we could truly compare apples with apples. Geelong and Saints have a much more even spread, and their top players are so because of the rich talent pool available. Collingwood? Pfft

Right now we're relying on Judd and a 20 and 21 YO to pull us out of the shit we find ourselves in.

We win when Judd, Murphy and Gibbs are able to break free from tags and outlast their opponents.

I want to see the block like Garlett put in to protect Murph - the same one that was missing for Judd by Bentleigh.

The plans we had we began the game with.....
After we had to catch up we overan a very poor side....

Playing the Zone nearly an 18 man Zone- when the game is hot and there is a bit of sting in it - The zone is useless - opposition run at you pin point the passes and unless you have incredible legs speed they will run right through you

Maybe thats why we start bad- when the pace goes out of it and it becomes a game of endurance the zone kicks in and works well

Need to forget the Zone in the first quarter or when the pace is on and develop something different

Throw some good money at Laidley to become our "Director Of Coaching" Coaches need to develop as well as players. Coaches need critical analysis throughout the year. Coaches need good role models, mentors and someone to oversee their short, medium and long term goals. Coaches need to be reflective, to be assessed (not in a punitive way, but with a view to developoment), coaches need to be observed and then debriefed etc. My model is not one of "a shadow hanging over the coaches to report back to the Board" My model is one of consentual intervention with the sole focus to improve their skill set.

I was hurrying back from work to watch the game on my IQ...and on the radio.. they explained we were getting slaughtered through the middle and they were perplexed that we started the game with two EXTRA players in the backline....

Now i wasnt there,,, i will have to take the word of those that were commenting on the game on radio who were there....

Now i know you wouldnt agree with such timid coaching...

Ypu wont get a tactical coach... cos he would tell Ratten he doesnt know what hes doing.. and then he would be frozen out.. in my opinion.

I doubt anyone worth their salt would want to walk into our nest of buddies...

I wouldn't agree with us playing 2 "extra" defenders but I doubt that was the case.
We chose to play a 6 man backline.
If Freo choose to play a 4 or 5 man forwardline to create space, I dont see why we should neccesarily assist them. Plus, if we are winning out of the middle, that creates a different situation but if Freo were dominating the centre square, (as they were), I'm happy to have numbers back to stabilise in the short term.
