Pros:

The kids contributing to a win (Browne, Armfield, AJ, Hampson, Garlett)
Mobile defence with more run
Still won when pressured late
Still lots of improvement to come
Jamison playing some attacking football
Guys like Anderson, Austin, JR, Bannister still having to push for a spot. Plus Warnock, Sauce, Waite and Walker when fit.

Cons:

Lack of forward options still. Liked it better when Kruezer went fwd.

gibbs in the guts. was the difference between what we normally serve up and what we served up for the first three quarters tonight before his lack of fitness caught up with him. like ablett, once he gets to that elite fitness level he will be unstoppable.

PROS

Fev got it right in the end - too often starts by missing plenty of gettables
Browne - calm and tough
Army - much better game
Ball movement was pretty slick - big improvement
Joseph and Carrazzo did great stopping jobs
4th on the ladder

CONS

Nearly lost it by going into our shell - mids disappeared
Probably should have won by more given Lions decimated backline - Drummond a big loss
Gibbs stopped after half time
Half forward line still a problem - Fisher, Houlihan, Garlett, Carrazzo, Setanta didn't give enough offensively

Workrate and intensity far better
AJ, Army, Browney and Hammer are all stepping up.

Cons
Not happy Black got away so much in the last but Grigga is short of a gallup.
Broken tackles.

Regards Cazzesman

What he said  + Brendan's game and Jeff Garlett...they'll be selling #38 jumpers at the shop soon if he keeps this form up.

Pros

AJ, Army terrrific. Garlett's tackle and goal. Fev and Juddy. Some of Gibbs' sidestepping was Harveyesque. Bower's run from half-back, kept on running even in the last quarter when a few guys stopped, even if it's heart in mouth stuff. Setanta's pass to Fev for his fifth.

Cons

Tackling at times was brushed aside too easily. Fish struggled. Thornton trying to sidestep Brown near the end.

With the ladder leaders and the break over the next 2 weeks, this was a bellweather game.

The first thing to strike me was the different brand of footy we played (through the guts). And when we stopped playing that brand in the last quarter, we let them in.

PROS

1. There aren't words to describe HIM. You know who I mean. HIM. We'd be 2-9 without HIM. HE is dragging the whole club along with HIM at the moment

2. Fev got the radar going after the early yips, still plays for frees but fev's fev.

3. I've been harsh on Ratten but at least he reacted to some elements of the crap we've dished up for a month -

a. Gibbs into the middle - was outstanding early. Why he has played half back for 2 months is mind boggling

b. Through the middle - and surprise surprise it worked

c. Kick out defence slightly improved. Slightly

4. AJ is good, Bower is great (gets to so many contests!), Brown is good, Army has dash.

5. Thornton is going very well on Brown - where do you reckon he'd be in the B&F at the moment?

Generally, a good win in a crucial game. Grigg's return was good.

CONS

1. CLEARANCES!! - I've never seen us so comprehensively beaten. Hard to work out why on TV, need to be at the game. My only theory is that we tap to Judd every time and the opposition know it.

2. Jamison's shoulders are busted he can't do anything above his head - he is still so damn handy otherwise and that's why we play him.

3. Some players lowered their colours in the last quarter when the heat came on. Disapponted in Murph, Gibbs and Grigg's last quarter. As they grow up they will need to stand up in these situations. Until then HE will carry them on HIS shoulders.

4. We went back to boundary line rubbish and not taking the game on in the last quarter. The contrast is stunning.

5. I love Matthew Kreuzer. He is a freak. Both he and HAmpson show so much promise as a future ruck division. My CON is that he is very very tired and we don;t help by resting him in the forward pocket rather than the bench. I know we have no alternative but for long term's sake, we need to treat him a bit more carefully. Being worked into the ground!

And carrots was very out of touch early, improved with time.

Big challenge next week. Suck it up boys. Whatever happens, HE plays for us. Yep, we got HIM.

Fev Brilliant

AJ
Gibbs good first half
4 out of 6 interstate trips done and dusted by half way mark only 2 to go

Pros:
- Fev getting his groove back. And amazing what happens when umpires actually penalise players for being all over him, eh?
- AJ is an absolute little pearler. Don't expect any recognition though
- I would do incredibly disturbing things to Chris Judd
- Gibbs and Murph again a starring role
- Thornton did a great job on Brown, despite Browny getting a few shots from stupid angles
- Garlett showing the rest of the team how to tackle
- Army and Brown are absolutely fearless
- Bower continues to keep things interesting
- The fact that we were heavily challenged by a quality team and managed to hold our nerve

Cons:
- Final quarter fadeout. Yes, we're a young team blah blah blah, but players can't afford to think they've done enough with 30 minutes left to go. The saints will smash us next week if we lose our concentration for a single minute.
- Tackling. The idea of tackling is to negate the player from disposing of it, not just holding them while they kick or handball it away with impunity
- @#$%&! I hate Brennan. He thinks he's Kouta, yet he's not a pimple on Kouta's arsehole
- Poor game from Eddie, and Fish and Houlihan faded in and out of the game (I thought we weren't going to be so Fev-conscious)
- Channel 10's commentary. Any free we get is a 50/50 call at best, when soft frees they got weren't even mentioned a second time

Pros:
Been a critic of Armfield but he was very good tonight
Browne...dropped back in front of J Brown quite a lot and isn't afraid to go back with the flight.
Fev actually getting the free kicks which should have been paid week in week out.
Gibbs playing more of an inside role. Went missing in the last along with Murphy but young players will do that when the pressure lifts.
Grigg good on Black for the first 3 qtrs
Hammer in the ruck...better palmer of the ball than Kreuz at the moment and we are starting to get a few effective clearances from his hitouts.
The great man
Defence held up well with the supply in the last qtr.
Gameplan too - a few instances when we had the ball at wing/HF and there were loose players about 30 out so we switched the ball into the middle then across to the other flank and then inside 50 to where there was space.
Joseph...normally little shits like Hooper kill us but it's good to see us developing those players who will play a specific role and do it very well.
Garlett's chasing in the forward line...if you can't get a kick it doesn't mean you can't chase and apply pressure.
Stevens disposal off half back was excellent
Scotland first game back also seemed to have the composure required
Bower bird got beaten by Brennan early but I don't think there's too many defenders who can match Brennan's agility but he provided good run off half back.
STFU Walls...if you haven't noticed his improvement then you haven't been watching too closely.

Cons:
Poor in the middle during the last qtr but the experience of Black and Power showed.
Poor tackling in the last qtr...we also let them run the ball out of our forward line through the corridor and then to pump it inside 50. Still the need to be accountable.
Still not a clear marking alternative to Fev inside 50.

probably stuff off screen then (or I wasn't concentrating 100%, both very possible) as I only saw him pop up here and there

Pros:

A hard-fought win, interstate, against a good side, WHEN IT ACTUALLY MEANT SOMETHING!!! Leapfrogged Brisbane now, top 4 beckons if we want it.
Fev - we take him for granted sometimes - the delivery was good tonight
AJ - love this bloke; hard at it, @#$%&! quick, hasn't been beaten yet
Gibbs - quality disposal
Bower - IMO is better than last year now; still erratic, but it comes off more times than not
Judd - JUDD
Scotto - experience
Armfield - love his dash and dare, reckon he is getting better too.

Special mentions to Hammer (much improved), Kreuz, Browne, Stevo and Santy on his 50th.

Cons:

Took it a bit easy early in the last - we thought the hard stuff was over. Explains a lot about our fragile mindset really.
Robert Walls and his video timewarp analysis of Fev's grip on the ball - just let it go you senile, repetitive, old man FFS!!!!
Quarterbrain and Anthony Hudson sitting next to him. "Adam" Joseph :garthp:

Thornton's softness and shit decision making in the last 1/4. He had a chance to go on the back flank half way through the last and didn't, turnover. Then when we were up by 13 in the last 1/4 had the ball deep in D50 with a team mate leading 60 metres away (all by himself), tried to take opposition on instead and failed. The guy needs to play to his strengths. Don't get me wrong, he can do some great things - including work on Brown tonight - but needs to hear some home truths from his team mates to be 100% effective in the team structure.

Pro: Was anyone else blown away by Hammers pace in the 3rd. Where he and Kruezer were 'loaping' along the wing and then all of a sudden Kreuz flicked it out to Hammer who just went BLLLLLLLASSTTTTTTTT and he was away. God he is a big fast unit.

When Murph turns it on....he really turns it on!

You weren't paying attention.... very visible on screen.

Thank God.... I mean Pratt for Judd.
