To carry on about the an advertising/marketing slogan and relate it to on-field performance shows how intellectually crippled this constant line of argument is.

Over the past 7 seasons of this club serving up tripe on the football field we have managed a win/loss ratio against Essendon* and Collingwood far in excess of our actual win/loss ratio - what did these wins mean in the context of list development - nothing except the short term satisfaction of a win against the traditional enemy.

Just as Essendon*'s win will mean nothing to the long term development of their list - Essendon*'s total pre-season focus of trying to win this game will be shown in the long run will be seen to be just a mentally flawed as the argument about our marketing slogan this year.

I take far more out of this 4 point loss against Essendon* which was fabricated by the performance of a few over 30 year old players playing out their last hurrahs.

We played poorly, lacked intensity, had a couple of selection mistakes and a reactive coaches box and lost by 4 points.

Once again if a few trollsters want to play amongst the turnips and gain some satisfaction with the "I told you sos" - thats their problem.

Well said hopefully sanity will prevail.

At the end of the year when Essendon* are in the bottom four and the Blues in the eight this game will mean nothing.

it'd be Carlton - buy another team's membership.

any team

Essendon* - they pull our pants down.

Richmond - they have depth

Collingwood - they are a professional unit

Hawthorn - Homer drool

Geelong - Homer drool

Fremantle - at least they are so far away you can ignore their strengths and weaknesses.

Melbourne - they only way is up

St Kilda - they know how to win - not flags but hey ours was a long time ago, not as long as theirs but hey I know about theirs.

Adelaide x 2 - either or both, they have better songs, jumpers, grounds, histories, and second tier players than us.

West Coast - One word - Cur - sorry, Kerr! oh and cock...no wait Cox. Two words, but two better words than Carlton.

The Roos - Spirit! Backbone! Toilet sex!

Bulldogs - real supporters, considerate, humble, fast.

Sydney - sexy.

Brisbane - So much better than us - they once won three in a row - imagine that! And we only beat them with a bit of luck.

Oh and all new teams are already better than us, more professional, understand the nuances of the modern game and never get ahead of themselves - that G40000 will win a flag in 4 years - or so they say, now that's marketing!

wow man you need to get a life or a hobby man.

you'd think me being alone in a hotel room in sydney waiting for my missus to fly in would go to such lengths to occupy my time!!!!

wow man... are you really Greg Matthews, man???

It had nothing to do with our performance, but it's a shit slogan. It's like "we're Carlton, @#$%&! the rest" when you've won 8 games in 44. You do the work, get the result and then tell people about it, that's the way it works. They'll know we're coming when they're wiping it out of their eye, until then it's just something that the players have to live up to when they're still getting their shit together.

Good teach them they have to live up to expectations while they are developing.
To win a flag you have to beat journo's, umpires, expectations and 15 other teams.
If you can't win a flag because of an article or a slogan or umpires ......well lets face it you were never really going to win one.

I don't think it's that big a deal, I just think it's a cocky slogan and I think you either embrace cockiness or it prickles you. I'm not one of the people who calls up radio stations after a loss and waffles on about 16 premierships either. Success speaks for itself, it doesn't need to be hyped.

Played golf on Monday and unfortunately teamed up with an Essendon* supporter.
Needless to say the first words he muttered to me when he found out I was a Carlton supporter where ...
"They know you came early". :fight:

Did you beat him or did he receive a free hit that wasn't there and then you bumped into him and he had another put? :smoking:
